Sunday Reading 9-2-12

Greetings and welcome back to our weekly review of what’s good, bad and ugly in the comic world. This being a 3 day weekend I find myself with a (more) limited amount of time than usual so while I’ll kick this week off I’m going to keep my comments to the quick. Feel free to chime in with your own wisdom to make up the difference. This week I’m looking at: Green Lantern Annual #1, Wolverine and the X-Men #15 and Uncanny X-Force #30.

Wolverine and the X-Men #15

Just like a lot of the satellite books of A vs X this book is better than the main story. Gives you a slower tale and takes a good look at what is going through some of the characters heads as things build toward the finale. I’m still not buying Wolverine as the head of a school for children, but I have to say that his interaction with Iceman this issue was some good stuff.

Green Lantern Annual #1

Things come to an end while serving as the starting point for the next story line. Overall not bad, I’m enjoying the Guardians going over the deep end and trying to take control of the universe by whatever means necessary. I’m wondering if the Controllers will ever make an appearance in a story? We get a nice finish with the Black Hand storyline and we finally see (in shadow at least) the First Lantern which is all a nice payoff. My only regret with this story line is that once again we have removed Hal Jordan from the playing field and, from reading the solicits, we already know that there is another NEW Green Lantern stepping up to take his place. I’m giving it a chance, but it just don’t think I need another storyline with Hal not being a Green Lantern.

Top Recommendation:Uncanny X-Force #30

This is a great book that is nearing the end of a underlining story arc that was started way back in issue one.  The ending to this book will ultimately decide if it reaches that “epic” quality, but lets face it, this book has what it takes. Rooting for Apocalypse is something I never would have thought I would do, but now I’m cheering for him.
