Sunday Reading 2-12-12

Here we are folks once again celebrating a Sunday with what’s good in the comic world. While I enjoyed my comics this week I honestly don’t think any of them hit all the bells and whistles I think are necessary what it comes to making my list for Sunday Reading. Thankfully fellow comic bloc writer Adam Schewie did find some titles in his stack-o-comics that made the grade. So while we may have a short list this week we do have a list, Adam takes a look at Wolverine and the X-Men #5 and Conan the Barbarian #1.

Wolverine and the X-Men #5

First up is Adams look at Wolverine and the X-Men. This issue throws a strange curve ball at Kitty Pride fans and with that hook Adam had this to say:

” ‘Alien-boy-whose-name-I-do-not-Remember! Please stop punching the DNA!’ If that line doesn’t make you pick up this book I don’t know what will. The fact that Aaron can write this book in addition to the violent Scalped shows his skills as a writer because this book is juts a joy to read. It’s funny, has great character moments and makes you want the next issue as soon as you finish reading it. Between this book and Uncanny X-Force its a great time to me an X-Men fan.”

I have to agree that line made me chuckle and definitely shows some of the sharp humor that is happening here. If you find yourself smiling maybe you should be giving this title a try.

Top Recommendation: Conan The Barbarian  #1

It’s a number one issue with a fan favorite character with a fan favorite creator in Adam Wood and that pretty much guarantees this the top recommendation this week. Adam gives us a little more:

“Take note publishers, this is how you release a #1 issue and how to adapt a property. Wood and Cloonan show why they are one of the best teams in comics with this issue. It’s smart, funny, full of action and allows the art and story to shine through. I have never read an issue of Conan before this one and I know I will be buying all 25 planned issue of Wood’s run.”

I have always loved Conan but have shied away from it in recent years, but it looks like I may want to take the time to reinvest some interest in the property. Anyone else being enticed back to Conan or discovering him for the first time?

Like I said, short and sweet this week folks. hopefully your own comic reading has brought you not only quality but some quantity too. If you see something we missed why not stop in and tell us why, what made your list for this Sunday Reading?
