Default Batman - Should He Change His Costume For The 21st Century?

Personally, I say YES! I honestly don't know as to WHY DC haven't given him already the 'black' colored Batman Begins-The Dark Night Bat suit body armor version because it seems to be that 'black' in general these days is accepted for Batman being in by audiences world wide in general now after having first seen the official change to that color/look in the 89 Batman movie followed with Batman Returns sequel time prior even. (We can just forget III and IV had existed altogether.) I just think IF PTB up at DC were to change it to being totally black with 'bronze' for the utility belt that it would go even more nicely with Nightwing, Robin III (Tim), Batgirl II (Cass) as well as the recently introduced Batwoman's own Bat family themed look all together at the end of the day!

But what say rest of y'all though? Does Batman need a 21st Century era upgrade to the Bat suit look itself?

I'm gonna go with no. The Batman suit is pretty much timeless. Remember, Batman HAD an all black costume after Prodigal and it returned to the classic non-oval variant. Plus anything that looks too apparent as body armor like the Begins/TDK outfits doesn't really tickle my fancy.

Black works in reality, but its a bit harder to pull off in the comics.

I'm interested to see if they give Dick Grayson or whoever the replacement Batman for a year is a cool costume, but when Bruce returns it should be the classic.

So basically you're saying 'Better to stick with the devil you know then the one you don't' come changing the Bat suit? :/

Well, it's a reasonable starting point for that POV yes. Batman's look has been around for 70 years, to change it now would require both a reason to do so, and an ability to design a new instantly iconic costume.

The bodyarmour costumes of the movies have never appealled to me, to be honest, they are reaslitic, but not as much fun, and do tend to highlight things like how impractical a cape is at all, or how inflexible body armour really is, to the extent that in the first four movies after 1989 Batman couldn't do something as simple as turn his head without twisting from the waist up.

We've seen the black Bat-Suit, so I know that devil. I've seen the massively armored Az-Bats, I've seen his original less armored version, I've seen the sleek Batman Beyond version(Which would be perfect for Dick), I've seen ALL manner of elseworlds. The decent looking suits from the Burton movies, the porno suits form the Schumucker flicks, and the awful sets of body armor from the Nolan movies. None have grabbed me or resonated like the original does.

And "Devil you know" implies there is something wrong with his current outfit. I don't believe there is.

I can see some changes coming to Batman's costume. Although his current look will always be the one people recognise.

In the Generations story they did another armored version of Batman it was ok, but the classic version is the best. As long as we don't have the rainbow Batman we will be ok.

Default Not armored

I'm not looking for the armored look, but I have to say
the black/dark gray costume of '95-'99 worked just fine.

It wasn't a major change, but a subtle modification of the classic look
(darker outfit with no obvious "underwear on the outside).

It was a nice cross between the movies and comics look,
a small tweak which made huge difference.

i think the dc guys already thought of having Bat's suit changed into the film's suit, but from personal experience into drawning. This suit isnt functional into comics, its too busy as a design..actually so busy that in every page smth is going to look different, plus the colour (all black) doesnt function it's going to look dull, i think.
Personally i would like a totally different outfit thats quite realistic but also impressing in a way that wont hide Batman's physique & built, something fearsome aswell but all these based on the original design. Tough task indeed

I wouldn't mind if they changed the colors to be mostly black / dark gray. But the general design of it seems right as it is.

Change the colors, yes. Change the costume? No.

It would be nice to see them modernize the character's look and move towards the functional and sleek design of the movies. I doubt they would ever go that far, though. In the meantime, please no more blues or yellows. That looks atrocious.

Those movie designs really don't look too good on paper. Whenever they've been rendered in movie adaptations they've looked terrible.
