Default Cover to Batman #685 (post Batman RIP)!!!!

Major spoilers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Colorist Soto has been showing some covers he's working on over on another forum, one of which he claims is the cover to Batman #685, pencilled by Andy Kubert.

This would make it a post-RIP issue!

Check it out before it gets taken down.

Pay close attention to the costumes.

SPOILERS!!!!!

Robin definitely looks like Damien right?

And Batman seems much slimmer, Dick?

That's definitely Damien.

Batman there better not be Tim, he's NOT that muscle bound or adult shaped.

That cover kinda...stinks. What's with Robin's legs?

The only change I see is that Batman's costume is black again, rather than blue. It's Andy Kubert, who's always drawn Tim with a fat face and a lot of hair, so that could easily be Tim. Batman still looks like Bruce to me.

Since Final Crisis is set a week after RIP (I'm sure I read that in a Morrison interview) and that features Bruce, we either have multiple Batmen or that's Bruce, I think.

You're right, Batman could still be Bruce, i'm just thinking that Robin bears more resemblance to how Andy draws Damien than how he drew Tim. It could still be Tim though.

A fair point, but i'm assuming this issue won't be out until 2009 and Morrison said issues #682 & 683 fill the gap between RIP and Final Crisis which likely places this issue post-Final Crisis.

This being Andy Kubert also makes me wonder whether this is for one of the Neil Gaiman issues?

It looks like Dick and Damien to me.

If so, where's that leave Tim and his supporting cast? And does that mean we have to see Damien start hitting on Steph? Because that's just downright creepy. Steph's a little older than Tim is, so she should be about 18 or 19! Damien, on the other hand, is only what, about 13 or so?

Wishful thinking, in my opinion. I'm quite sure Batman is going to be Bruce by the end of everything (if he wasn't, we sure as hell wouldn't see something like that in an unrelated event like Final Crisis, even if it is being done by the same writer). Just not how we know him; of which I figure that the Bruce Wayne persona is going by the wayside.

I've got to say, when it comes to Tim, I really think the solution here is going to be Tim taking up the mantle of Red Robin, which would not only let him keep his title with a minor change to the title, but let's him finally move forward from the role of Robin. Of which I'd fully support, even if I'd rather it were Jason under said mantle.

Something tells me there is going to be more then one Batman coming soon. In #66 we're shown what can be taken as Bruce being killed wearing a Batman costume with a much larger bat and longer utility belt pouches...

That costume appears again in a display with Damian Robin and something looking like the modern Batman suit, but smaller somehow. I wonder if when/if Bruce returns from whatever happens to him if he'll adapt this sort of "Father Batman" costume with the larger symbol and different utility belt. The way the costumes are posed and set up seems in indicate all 3 acted together in unison.

And, oh my. Is this the cover to "Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader"? It's Kubert, who is paired with Neil for that book said to be one oversized Detective issue and one oversized Batman Issue. Who knows what that book may be about so it could be Bruce and Tim in an iconic pose for the Batman farewell/career exploration. So if this is Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader, the cover might not be indicative of who Batman and Robin are Post-RIP

To all the folks who are talking about how the costumes look different, remember that Tony Daniel said he was asked to rework their costumes a bit. The detail changes could just be used to show post RIP status, not new people in the suits.

It's Andy Kubert. He's always twisted bodies in ways that look tripple jointed. It's one of the biggest beefs I have with his style. I mean, check out the cover with Damian trying to attack Batman and Robin with his sword. Look at how Batman's body is twisted in that picture. It's just bizarre.

I think it is just meant to be a generic picture of Batman and Robin. I am not going to read any more into it (other than to say that if it IS Damien, my guess is that Tim is Red Robin, out to try to find Bruce.... all right, maybe I will speculate....
