TOUCH OF EVIL...director's cut.

Welles' genuis explodes off the screen...I actually think this exceeds CITIZEN KANE, but the touchy-feely Capra-esque Kane twist will always win over more fans and critics.

Brilliant acting and dialogue, and a pretty damned good early example of how to adapt books for the screen.

The General with Buster Keaton - You will be amazed by his work in this film - which is about a steam train named The General - oh and it's funny as all heck, too.

Casablanca - It really is the greatest film of all time.

The Philadelphia Story - Carey Grant, Jimmy Stewart, and Katherine Hepburn are amazing.

Blazing Saddles - The best of all the films by Mel Brooks.

Double Indemnity
The Third Man - Possibly the two greatest examples of Film Noir, certainly two of the smartest.

And a suite of films to see together -
The Seven Samurai, Yojimbo, The Magnificent Seven, and A Fist Full of Dollars. Samurai and Yojimbo are two of the most remade films in history and Magnificent Seven and Fist Full of Dollars are two of the best remakes. To show the importance of Kurasawa's influence in film, even Star Wars has a tribute to Yojimbo in it.

Captain Blood
The Sea Hawk
Adventures of Robin Hood

^ the classic Errol Flynn

Yojimbo and Sanjuro--where Eastwood's man with no name came from.
Seven Samurai -- There's a reason why it's been remade so many times from Magnificent Seven to A Bug's Life to an episode of Enterprise.
Red Beard --Kurosawa's great Samurai hospital drama (seriously) and the last, most ambitious film he made with Mifune (they built a period village, in its entirety).

Firewalker--Chuck Norris's first intentional comedy.
Berry Gordy's The Last Dragon--80's Rock Kung Fu "Musical". Opens with a sequence that includes the star actually breaking arrows in flight (yadome).

The Big Sleep --When the scriptwriters got confused adapting the novel, they called the author to explain who committed one of the murders. Even he didn't know.

B13--Stunts to shame Batman himself.
Enter the Dragon--the martial arts classic.

Hope Floats --Sandra Bullock only agreed to do Speed 2 so they would let her make this movie. It was worth it.

The Quiet Man--Just see it.
The Five Pennies--Danny Kaye in a (mostly) serious biographic, features some of the greatest Jazz musicians of all time, including Louis Armstrong.
A Song is Born--insane mobbed up lounge singer academic comedy, features dozens of Jazz greats and a literal music fight.
The Court Jester--All time tongue twisting comedy classic.

Cannibal Holocaust. The movie that one can actually say that calling it "the one that goes all the way" is doing it a disservice. Truly a shocking, visceral experience.

Wages of Fear - It's French. It was made in 1953 and it is amazing. Four drifters are paid to drive trucks filled with explosives through South America.
It's nerve wracking in such a great way. It also won some prizes (British Film award and the grand prize at Cannes) if thats the kind of thing that makes you check out a movie.

Is that the part where he cuts that guys arm clean off? I loved that bit!!!

Also see Kurosawa's Hidden Fortress for more Star Wars inspiration. Another little thing is that Lucas had the animators make Yoda rub the top of his head while he was thinking like the leader in Seven Samurai! It's when Yoda, Mace Windu and Obi-Wan are talking about Annakin in a troop carrier

And that's another thing comics have taught us - if your pants don't get ripped up, it doesn't count as a rampage.

Never heard anything specific about a Yojimbo lift in Star Wars, but I would think some of Han's antics (or maybe just the character himself?). If anyone, Han is the Sanjuro character of the original Star Wars.

When Obi-Wan quickly takes the guys arm off in the catina and then 'sheaths' his 'sword' in one smooth motion is the same as when Toshiro Mifune de-arms (!) someone and puts his weapon away very quickly (with similar direction IIRC) in Yojimbo.

Les Visiteurs. A French farce about a knight transported to modern times.

It was, unfortunately, remade as "Just Visiting" and starred the same lead actors as the Knight and his manservant. However, it fell F-L-A-T.

But the original with all the politically incorrect rants and behaviors is genius.

This was remade in '77 as "Sorcerer" and that film was pretty impressive.
