Default The Ion and Oblivion

Ok i was re-reading some old GL issues and i came across Winick's run of GL at the end when Klye Rayner picked up the powers of Parallax and Oblivion from the circle of fire story and became the Ion. Now wouldn't Klye had been affect by THE PARALLAX if it was always around? Oblivion in a way was kind of like The Parallax that geoff invented. Oblivion came from Klye himself and after being defeated it went to seek out power and it went to the sun were Hal died. Then Klye became The Ion and that was cool.

Rebirth did have ALOT of add-ons to make the story make sense but somethings don't match up. When i tell people these things all they say is "just ignore it." Well is Geoff going to talk about Klye being the Ion as well as Oblivion?

Nope. I'm thinking this will just be about Hal. All of Kyle's loose plots line will be ignored.

Ignored it should be.

REBIRTH was the capstone to past continuity. Now we move forward, not dwelling on bad writing of the past.

How can you say that. Bad or good continuity should be respected. If i was writing comics I would try to work with them. Past plots and loose ends whatever it should be continued and remembered.

I would say "past plots and loose ends whatever it should be continued and remembered" when they serve the new stories.

Otherwise, comic books will become a dying industry, incestuously recycling old plot points to amuse a dwindling community of fanboys... oh, wait.

Sometimes its good to look back once in awhile thats all. DC is looking way back now. Can you say 1980?

So you think DC should not have recycled an old plot point by bringing back an older hero in Hal?

The powers Kyle had as Ion were in fact the energy that Hal as Parallax took from the Central Power Battery.
Once Hal died and merge with the Specter Parallax went with him, (remember that it was merge with Hal Soul).
So no, Kyle couldn't be affected Because Parallax wasn't there in the energy.

Not the same thing at all.

If I was advocating resolving something in the Predator/Terminator storyline from Hal's last issues, then the comparison would hold. I'm not.

The answer is in your question - neither Hal nor Kyle are "plot points." They're characters.

You said that u dont want DC to look back and to move forward. Well lets see, Teen Titans, Supergirl, and Hal Jordan it looks like DC is looking way back and bring the past here. I want them to touch up on issues that are 4 or 5 yrs old whats wrong with that? They were good to me but people don't want that but they want to re-live the 1980s. It doesn't make sense.

Going back to old stories 4 or 5 yrs ago is fine but DC is reliving there past now from 70s and 80s and nobody sees that as wrong?

To me its not a matter of dropping the plot as much as the answer is obvious. Parallax was tied to Hal's soul and weaknesses, not the power of the Central Battery. When Hal became the Spectre Parallax followed him to a greater source of power, not returning to its prison in the Battery.

Ion/Oblivion were powered by the battery's power after it was seperated from Hal, and therefor had no Parallax influence.

Think for yourself and question authority.

My name is Peter Werle. Please print it in a comic.

I don't see how anyone could attach the Yellow Parralax to Kyle....especially if he wasn't showing the famous Yellow defiency. I believe that the plot showed all the Green Energy that had been floating around for years, find a home in Kyle's Ring.

But here's what I wonder...if all this Green Energy was floating around...why could any ex-corps members tap into it. According to a few comics, even breaking the Green Lantern Ring isn't enough to stop the user if their will was strong enough(see legends, where Kyles ring is crumbled), and strong willed one's are able to control it, the ring was only the conduit. I didn't think it made sense that all that energy was just lying around

BTW, I thought the Ion story was interesting, and a change in pace. Without the Guardians to harness the power, and without any GL rings to use the power, would one member of the Corp, begin to overload on power. It was a good story, and it was different. That is what comics always need to do, find more interesting stories instead of killing off characters, and the ilk.

All am saying is that while reading the Circle of fire story Oblivion to me sounded alot like Geoff's rebirth Parallax creature cause it preyed and came from fear and stuff. But it did come from Kyle himself and all of that negative energy he had.
