Gail has managed to pull off the best of the IC books yet! I LOVE DCU villains and this book delivers!
The new Secret Society of Supervillains is set up nicely, but the ones to watch are of course the Secret Six!
Catman/Kazar is both very interesting and pretty cliche' but he works for this book.If this new Catman runs into Batman you can expect one of the best fights in years. Even Talia recognizes a bit of the bat in him-"His presence...for a moment he reminded me of a very great man."
The stakes are raised quite a bit in this book and the heroes of the DCU should be VERY worried.
There is also a hit of Suicide Squad in this book, especially with Deadshot playing a main role.
Gail manages to juggle all the characters without making you feel like you missed something.
And let me tell you I would love to live in the Secret Six headquarters!!

So this Catman is a different guy than the Catman in the Green Arrow storyline a few years back?

Nope same guy.

He asks for a letter to be sent off to Ollie at one point.

Add Fiddler to the death toll as well.

Bwa-ha-ha!

That retailer will have one for sale for you for $10 next week! I bet he even had to buy it for more than cover from one of his competitors and he's actually losing money selling it to you!

Keep looking! There's one shop in my city with over 300 copies still on the stands!

This is the most interesting of the tie-in minis. Also, the villians gathering and 'factioning' is a VERY interesting development. I also like that the series [unlike OMAC and others] can stand on its own!

Also really enjoy Gail's take on Cheshire and Catman.

This was a pretty cool issue. I still don't quite see Black Adams motivation being on this team. But hopefully we'll get to that. I'm intrigued by the whole Catman thing...last we saw him, I think, was in Meltzers Archers Quest. And he was quite...different then. I'm glad that it seems that they just used him instead of replacing him. I'm all for legacy characters but sometimes it's a bit too much. Anyway, it was a real fun issue. Nice to see some of these characters together...can't wait to see where Villians United goes. And I also wonder if Black Manta will already be apart of the Cabal by the time of his appearence in next weeks Aquaman. Maybe he'll drop a few hints there.

This series is alot like Day of Vengeance in that we have a rag tag bunch of misfits against seemingly impossible odds.
As it stands we get a much better feel for the Secret Six.
Some fights I cant wait for:
Catman vs Slade
Cheshire vs Talia
Among others.

suicide watch is on for Rex_Tyler

Part of me would like to think like most cliches, that Fiddler ain't dead and he's somehow behind it all in a way. But I'm not that optimistic

Heh...Crapgame13, you took the words right out of my mouth about our esteemed Mr. Tyler. I was just about to post the same sentiments when I read your post.

The Catman revamp was quite snazzy, although he better not have lost his trademark magic cloak along with his hyphen.

This is the best Countdown crossover yet, and I can't wait to see the 200+ member Society.

Another great series to pick up every month!!

My biggest geek factor came in seeing the return of Catman (although wer have yet to see him in costume). This is how I always imagined him to be. My first intro to him was a two-parter in Detective about 10 years or so agp in which he and Catwoman teamed up against Batman. Good stuff but he never quite found his place. Until now. Can't wait for next issue.

I diagree with the poster that said this series is one that stands on its own though. I think anyone who hasn't read Identity Crisis won't get what's REALLY going on. I wish these four books would be more independent but hey, they're all fun as hell so I'm not complaining.

The action was fun, the art top notch (except a few panels here or there where Dr. Psycho came off as a Simpsons character) and the script top notch.

But, while this issue proved to be a great INTRO issue, it didn't really set up much in the way of motivation or goals. I kinda understand why the SSOSV has joined together and organized the rest of the villain community. The whole Dr. Light thing got them in the room together. Got it. Now what? And I'm curious about the goal of this Mockingbird and the new SS.

Looking forward to the future of this book and its sibling series'.

-Dan
p.s. Black manta won't be in next week's Aquaman as anyone who READS the book should know by now. Sadly.

And am I wrong or is the woman in green Cheshire? They keep calling her Jade. I'm not a 24/7 comic geek so I don't know the details on this character.
