Default Hint on Kyle's future?

From the Dan Didio interview with Zona Negativa:

ZN.- Does Guy Gardner deserve his own series or will GL Corps be his only piece of the DCU. Any projects for Kyle Ryner?

DD.- Guy will be an important part of the new GREEN LANTERN CORPS series planned and you will be able to catch Kyle in that book and in the new ION series.

Interesting. Assuming that this isn't a slight mis-translation, or that Didio doesn't mean 'in GLC and then in Ion' this is quite a big hint at Kyle's status OYL.

If that's accurate, then

1) Sweet! Guy and Kyle are rocking in the mini, and I didn't want to see them part.
2) Whew! I was afraid Kyle would only be a pseudo-GL in Ion, but this makes me think that he'll still be a GL, just with a change in mission.
3) This means that appearing in another book won't preclude a role in GLC, so we can get all of our favorite Lanterns in on the action on a regular basis!

I'm done.

I'm happy about this news as Guy and Kyle were really an awesome team within the GLC from what we've seen so far in this mini. However, I think the mini is only as good as it is due to Geoff's involvement. Dave Gibbons has a long way to go before "Great Guardians!" is forgotten. And along side an Ion book with Marz doing Kyle's voice justice? I think Ron already stated that Kyle would say "Great Guardians!" about as often as he did "Dude...." under his pen, which is never.

But even if it's Ion saying "Great Guardians!" I'll just be glad that Kyle's still used to his potential in a team dynamic. Could Kyle being in two places monthly hint to him being "here and there, everywhere...."

I'd take "Great Guardians" over G.D. any day of the week!

A second series bites the dust because people can't be repsectfull.

How is DC letting this word through.

It killed the whole series for me.

At least there is Ion.

Just wondering Paul, I understand how some folks feel about the GD word. I don't like to hear it but sometimes when something really crappy happens I find myself letting it slip every once in awhile but shortly afterwards I always look to the sky and tell God I'm sorry. If something like that happened in a comic and the hero at least said sorry would it make up for it? Not trying to derail the thread but I haven't read the latest GLC so I don't know who said it....

I guess that's a tough question. The "airward apology" is extra space of exposition that wouldn't have to be there if three letters weren't there in the first place.

I'm not perfect. BY ANY MEANS! But I've trained myself to not even slip G.D.

I still slip a curse now and again. I have kids and if I allow myself to slip away from them, it's easier to slip in front of them.

I believe in writting that cursing doesn't equal realism. If a guy I know uses the "N" word in real life. Does it add to realism to include that in comics? Since real people say it in the real world. I say no.

My Grandmother had a saying on a card on the refridgerator all while I was growing up:

"Profanity is the effort of a weak mind to appear strong"

in essence: If I can't communicate my anger, joy or frustration through a sentence without profanity, adding profanity doesn't instantly make it so.

I can say: "I went to the store to get a candy bar."

Does it communicate the information it needs to?

Is saying: "I F***ing went to the F***ing store to F***ing get an F***ing candy F***ing bar"

any more urgent or specific?

As a game: write a sentence that you'd say and use exclamation points instead of profanity.

"I [b]![b] went to the [b]![b] store to [b]![b] get an [b]![b] candy [b]![b] bar."

Do people really talk like that? Absolutely!

Is having people talk like that in fiction stories make them more real? Not necessarily.

We are defined by our actions more than our words. A bad man acts bad. We gleen from his actions that he's bad. does adding profanity make him more bad?

Action Comics has been around for 800+ issues without that word (GD) as far as I know. Does that make the characters less real?

[i]Irony alert: The discussion of realism in fiction.[i]

Is Ruin, Hush or Joker less evil or "real" because they do not cuss?

I think it's ultimately a silly arguement to debate the validity of profanity in fiction. Like violence, it's not necessary if the writer is creative enough or skilled enough.

We can infer the grittiness or shock of a person or event through many other writting tools.

Other's reactions can show this. There are many others.

______________

I can make allowences for dam* or hell or even @ss, although the last one is in the OVER-USED category. When Jay Leno tries to come up with an excuse to use @ss in every Tonight Show broadcast or in teaser commercials on TV - "watch Joey kick @ss on NBC tonight" it's a little cliche now.

All I'm asking for is restraint on the GD. Is GD any different than just D? Not for communicating that a badguy is a potty-mouthed badguy. Does it make a difference to me? YES!

Whether Hal Jordan kicks butt or kicks @ss, he's still kicking something.

Does that long winded post kind of answer your question? At least from my perspective?

I guess the moral of the story is: as long as writers feel they need GD in the books, I'll continue to need to drop titles.

Which is a shame that in the state of the comic industry now, that writers are willing and proud to lose any reader over three letters.

I'm asking for consideration, not censorship. Profanity will exist in this world. I just picked my line and am holding to it.

Oh and Guy Gardner said it. I guess if the writers haven't shown that Guy is an irreverant jerk in the past... [sarcasm]This cleared it up.[/sarcasm]

Guy said "THERE!"
Next page "strung up like some GD trophy! Cut her down, Rayner--"
Next panel " I'm gonna KICK @SS and TAKE NAMES."

He could've said "strung up like some D trophy"

or "strung up like some trophy"

or "strung up like a green trophy"

or "strung up like a red trophy"

or "strung up"

or the picture/art could've spoke for itself since it was a large panel of her strung up like some trophy.

And also it's a good thing Guy told us he was gonna kick butt. Otherwise, we'd never have figured it out. It seemed really forced just to get Guy to say @ss.

See, this is where I'm actually pushed to the modern, less-wordy way of letting comic art speak for itself.

I assume that Gibbons doesn't trust Patrick Gleason enough because Dave has to redundently re-explain action with "sentence enhancers" throughout the book.

Just some more thoughts, sorry.
