Default Diana Prince

I love Diana Prince and i miss her. Theres a lot of talk about how she might be brought back in the next few weeks and honestly i'm crossing my fingers.

I don't really wanna talk about the need for a secret identity... some folks say there isn't one but i disagree for numerous reasons... thats a whole different discussion and i recommend everyone just go read Spirit Of Truth.

What i wanna talk about is this: if Diana Prince was brought back how could it work?

Pre-Crisis Diana was at one point the top female secret agent in America. I think it might be cool to work that angle somehow... and who better to do that than Greg?

Think about it: as Diana Prince she could investigate fascist dictators or corrupt foreign regimes or nasty terrorists or poachers or smugglers... her alias would put her right where she needed to be most.

This could also be a great way to get Steve Trevor back in the picture. You could turn Diana and Steve into the Sydney and Vaughn of the DCU.

And for a woman who can fly round the world in moments theres no reason why she couldn't also run something like the Wonder Woman foundation without her secret identity... maybe even bringing her current embassy supporting staff to work for her there.

IMHO it could work.

The only way for the secret identity to work is for everyone on the planet to get mind-wiped as Diana has gone public with the name "Diana Prince" being tied to her. This was done in both the Perez and Byrne eras.

I just see that as the definitive version of the character y'know? Like Superman has Lois and Clark... Bats has Selina and Bruce... to me Wonder Woman should always have Diana Prince and Steve.

I hear people say a lot that they were never a fan of Steve... but IMHO thats just cos nobody really wrote the character well.

Well i'm thinking something like that may be on the cards anyways.

And if not... well it wouldn't be the first time they fudged continuity a wee bit to make something work.

I'd like to see the return of Diana prince and also Steve Trevor as a love-interest for her.

I highly doubt that if Diana adopted the Diana Prince persona that the public at large would even remember such a thing.
If she altered her look enough **ooh glasses* she could still use the name without worry that people would put 2 and 2 together.
Diana Prince is only the name on her social security card, i doubt she mentioned it in her book.
As for the return of Steve Trevor, it cant come fast enough. It is an essential part of her history and one that roots her mission in love and peace. The Diana of now has no tether to America or humanity and that is what IC is shining a light on.
After 20 post Crisis years this "new" Wonder Woman has done nothing for me but make me conflicted on why even buy the book anymore.
I anxiously await her Post-Infinite Crisis fate and truly hope that DC will bring some WOnder back to the Woman.

I agree Madison. For me it just feels like theres something missing... like theres been a great big hole in the heart of the franchise for the past twenty years. We have a version of Wonder Woman right now... but its not THE Wonder Woman that the general public think of and that i grew up with. I love some of what Perez did... and i truly love what Greg is doing right now... but i still feel like the centre of the franchise is missing.

Wonder Woman and Steve Trevor? I prefer my superheroes to be non-codependent. Why is it such a problem for her to be solo. Why is the center of her franchise a man? Why isn't she the center of her franchise? Batman can stand alone quite well. I think she does just fine the same way.

IC is manufacturing a disconnect between Wonder Woman and humanity. If you bothered to read her comic, you'd see that she has numerous tethers to humanity; she sacrificed a chance to regain her sight just to save one mortal life. She stood up to her own patron god for the right to face justice for killing Max Lord. This imperious, "above it all" Diana in IC#1 is the result of lazy writing from Geoff Johns, and a retcon of a comic that came out *last week*.

Not to sound overly simplistic, but generally I find that the supporters of the secret id tend to have been fans of the tv show when it was still on the air in the 70s whereas those who came upon the comic way after the fact could take it or leave it. Just an observation. Though Brad's just a pup so he might be the exception to the rule.

Why do all Steve haters seem to lack imagination? Just because the relationship was codependent back in the day doesn't mean thats how it would turn out now.

Same as just cos Steve was a bit of a chauvenistic jerk back in the day doesn't mean he has to be now. Characters are updated all the time... why not Steve?

Personally i see him as a kind of Han Solo type character... c0cky and kinda chauvenistic... but that side of him is a front and really he is a cool guy.

I mean if he was REALLY chauvenistic would he have ran around like a lovesick puppy after Wonder Woman for all those years? Especially seeing as how his masculinity was constantly stepped all over? A TRULY chauvenistic guy would have split... yet Steve stuck around and willingly put himself in a position where he was second fiddle to a woman on a regular basis.

As for Diana... i see her as someone who doesn't necessarily want a man and who definately doesn't NEED one... but she meets Steve and is fascinated by him cos he is the polar opposite of pretty much everything she has been surrounded by her whole life... she kinda enjoys the challenge that being around him represents.

Honestly the Steve/Diana relationship to me has always seemed like one of those great doomed romances. They want to be with each other so bad but it can never really happen... the closer they allow themselves to get the more they hurt each other.

In practical terms the relationship cold be just like that of Sydney and Vaughn from Alias... or even Mulder and Scully from X-Files... two equals (in terms of personality and character) who spark off each other.

In the hands of a good writer this stuff is dramatic gold-dust. I mean who wants to see a relationship where everything is perfect and they get along great and everyone is super-happy the whole time? Thats just dull.

I also find it a wee bit ironic that if i was suggesting a relationship between Diana and Io most of you Steve haters would jump at the suggestion.

She doesn't need a man to be complete yet she needs a woman? Hmmm... i smell double standards.

If you bothered to read my post you will see i already said she doesn't NEED a lover to make her whole.

But who wants to spend their whole life alone and without love?
