I loved Band of Brothers, so I was psyched for this mini, too. So far it is off to a good start! I liked Jon Ceda from Homicide Life on the Street so think he'll be good as Basilone. It is funny to see the kid from Jurassic Park all grown up now, too!

That scene where the soldiers taunted the dying Japanese soldier, followed by the writer/soldier looking through the dead man's things to find the photo of his wife and a child's toy was really heart breaking.

I actually felt bad also. But I'm sure stuff like that went both ways.

Great start though.

So far most of the POV has been that of American soldiers, just as it was in Band of Brothers. As with BoB, the shows are prefaced by interviews with veterans who are profiled in the show. While they reference the major battles, the emphasis is really on each soldier's personal experiences during the conflict. Several of the veterans featured in the show wrote autobiographies about their experiences, and I believe the storylines were drawn from them.

YOu can watch it on-line. Search for the Pacific or go to HBO.com. At least I watched the 1st episode on-line...I'm assuming the rest are there also.
