This sounds like those villain spotlight issues that Geoff did in Flash (Captain Cold, Mirror Master, Pied Piper, Zoom, Heatwave) and recently in Action Comics (Toyman). Honestly, I think Geoff could write a whole ongoing of these, focusing on a different villain every month.

As for Solomon Grundy, I think he'll get a black ring in Blackest Night and change back into Syrus Gold.

I know it says one-shot but is this going to tie into the next that ties into the next or is it a stand alone.

Because I want to get it but not have to get all of them.

It doesn't tie-into the other Faces of Evil issues, if that's what you're asking. Faces of Evil is a label, not a story.

It's a spotlight on Solomon Grundy. The story of his life and an analysis of his motivation, that sort of thing. It might have a twist ending that leads into Scott Kolins' Solomon Grundy mini-series that launches in March, but you should still be able to enjoy the one shots on its own merits too.

By the way, here's the colored cover.

This issue was fantastic, I didn't really care for it but I liked Solomon Grundy and knew his history and what Geoff and Scott do with the character is amazing and is in a step in the right direction for him and I see why they are doing a Solomon Grundy mini-series.

and if you want a spoiler SPOILER. Highlight below text to read
Grundy wakes this time as Cyrus Gold revived instead of Grundy. I'll give another Alan Scott is going to help Cyrus break the Grundy curse because Phantom Stranger says it would be better if Grundy wasn't here for the Blackest Night. Also a character dies in the issue I think he died, not sure though besides Grundy.

Also Alan Scott and Phantom Stranger are in this and it is cool what they are going to do.
