'Cause its a god-awful idea. Grayson before he was Robin? Uhm. Why even tie it to the comics then? Why not do this same idea but change the name and untangle it from the DC mythos. I mean, I still wouldn't watch it, but some people here might.

I'm sorry, but Hollywood (and people in general) need to accept that if you change an idea enough while you're "adapting" it, its not that idea anymore--its something else entirely, and at that point you'd be better off reworking it and embracing the fact that its a new creation.

How so? I don't know any details about how they're going to portray this. Do you?

Because Robin/Dick Grayson is probably the third most popular comic book character after Superman and Batman. Maybe 4th, after Spider-man, but I dunno even about that. It's a lot more marketable to add his name to it.

From all that I've read, which isn't much, I admit, nothing after Dick becomes Robin is going to be changed. And we know little about Dick's life before that, so what's to change? What's to adapt?

REALLY? Do you really care about what his life was before Batman?

It's got to be like "Leave it To Beaver" or something because he was younger than 13. This sounds like a REALLY dumb idea for a TV Show.

Frankly, I think this is going to end up being a complete re-imagining of Dick Grayson's early life, and not just about his life before he became Robin. And perhaps not just Dick Grayson will be involved, although he'd be the lead character.

Do not be surprised if the support characters have names like Barbara Gordon, Kory Anders, Donna Troy, Wally West, Garfield Logan, Rachel Roth, etc...

I'm calling it now: It'll be Teen Titans seen through a Smallville lens.

EDIT:
And it also occurs to me that "The Graysons" may just be a tentative title, and not the final one they end up using. Wasn't Smallville originally going to be called something like "Young Clark Kent"?

If they make it interesting enough for me to care, sure, why not? I mean, I'm already interested in the character of Dick Grayson. Why wouldn't I want to know more about his life?

That's something completely different, although, I'm not sure how much you can re-imagine "boy who grew up in circus and had his parents killed by a mobster." It's not like Smallville, which involves aliens and the like.

If they go that route, though, I'll be a little more skeptical. But if it's just giving us backstory to his life before Robin, which we know close to nothing about, then I'm pretty fine with that.

My response in another thread about this show:

I like the name DJ (I should...it's my name!) and obviously it's an attempt to avoid using "Dick" in his first name. I think the name could work given time...it's just something we're not used to yet. At least it's not as bad as that "DG" name they used for Dorothy in the recent mini-series "Tin Man" (liked the story, though). However, I think the show premise is horrible. The way it's set up, it could cause problems and create confusion regarding Batman's history and do damage to the perception of the legacy.

My idea: do a series focused on Dick Grayson after he split off from Batman, focusing on his beginnings as Nightwing. We could see how he struggles to come out of the "shadow of the Bat" to emerge as a hero in his own right, how he deals with being replaced as Robin (by a jerk of a replacement Jason Todd at first), find and struggle with his role in the legacy of the Dark Knight, and maybe even see the beginning of a new Titans team somewhere down the line. Heck, he could start using the name "DJ" as a way to establish a clean break from how others knew him as before, as Dick.

I think there's a lot of story ideas that could come out of my premise. Obviously there would be more to work with and could resonate a lot more than that stupid "Graysons" idea. AFAIK, there hasn't been a show done using this premise, at least in the superhero genre.

Jason wasn't a jerk, people didn't like him because he pretty much was a clone of Dick.

Because the WB is nothing but annoying, melodramatic Teen soaps which suck monkey balls?

Also, seriously, what can they actually do with this idea? Yeah, sure, seeing Dick on the trapeeze would be nice, but that's about all you're gonna get out of it, unless they have the Graysons set up out of the circus (if they were ever circus performers to begin with in this version) and comfortably living in the suburbs, with Dick just starting High School or something...which again leads to more melodramatic teen angst BS. Robin does not need to star in a knock-off of Gossip Girl, which is itself an awful show!

No, he started out as a clone of Dick, but then morphed into a little back-talking snot, and that's when the fans turned on him

Oh great, Dawsons Creek with a boy named Dick Grayson. Just what I was wishing for! Remember kids, dreams do come true!

God what a stupid idea.

this is an even scarier idea.

it could ruin any future potential for a genuine live action teen titans series.

Ther's potential for a genuine live action teen titans series that any actual fan of the teen titans concept could enjoy?

Do we live on different worlds here?

There's always potential. Whether it's capitilized on, however, is another matter entirely.
