I'll throw one out there...

Are the stories you'll be telling soon based primarily on your ideas only, a 70/30 split (meaning your stories but get them in position for the next company wide crossover), 50/50 split ("yeah, you have some ideas but we (dc higher ups) would like to see this. Work in some of your ideas into this frame work.")?

I ask only because of this: When the other Titans series started up, I worked out 35+ issues of stories over the course of issues 1, 2, and 3 coming out. I know nothing may come of these ideas/log lines but I'm really curious as to how it works inside.

What I guess I'm trying to ask is how tricky is it to get an offer to write the Teen Titans and plan out a 12 issue run with an underlying arc while watching where the characters should be in 3/6/8 months time?

JT - non-Titans related question. I was watching Seinfeld yesterday and noticed a "JT Krul" on the credits for the episode (it was the season finale for Season 7 - "The Invitations"). One of your pre-comics jobs?

Anyway, welcome. I've enjoyed all of your work to date and looking forward to great things in 2010 and beyond!

Been walking around the "neighborhood" a bit, and I like what I see. I think I am going to make a home here on the bloc.

Roy Harper is typically written as a man who has one night stands and casual sex, with a few busted relationships here and there. My question: Does Roy respect women, or does he use them?

Personally, I don't think Roy is a misogynist, but I do think he uses sex to avoid dealing with his problems and to achieve the forbidden thrill he once got from drugs. Cheshire might as well change her name to Opium.

Saturn Girl View Post
I don't think Roy is misogynistic. For the most part, he seeks out strong women - Donna Troy, Jade, Kendra, Grace. He wanted to marry Donna, had a child with Cheshire, and was very hooked on Kendra. I just think he's had a lot of practice. Yet, given his vast history, the question of commitment does pop into his head.

What appeals to you most about comics as a medium?

You mentioned at The Source that you're "eager to get the chance to tell brighter stories that build the team up stronger than ever". What do you tend to think of when you say 'brighter'? And is that mandate to write those stories and stabilize the roster partially a recognition, on behalf of editorial, that the characters from Titans franchises have been, well, put through the wringer a bit too often since One Year Later?

What doesn't appeal to me about comics. It's creative, visual, collaborative. It's an artform that harkens back to my own childhood, yet allows me to tell deep, compelling stories (sometimes with very heavy, mature themes). What's not to like. But as for what appeal most - nothing like walking into a comic shop on Wednesday and seeing my story on the shelf.

The Titans road has been rough as of late - they've really been put through the ringer. For me, brighter simply means tales with hope. A lot of my Titans work to date - almost all of it (wow) has been very heavy, dark stuff. Blackest Night, Arsenal, Fractured.

Hi JT! Welcome to the Titans' world!

One question and one request -

Question - Who is your favourite non-Fab Five pre-Wolfman/Perez Titan?

Request - Please don't let DC kill any more Titans. I think I speak for all fans when I saw we're over it.

I think the book has something of a stigma attached to it right now, for various reasons, none of which anyone's fault necessarily. Do you think that a new #1 would help make you run feel like a new start or do you think it's unnecessary and would just muddy the water? Likewise going back to some sort of cumulative numbering like Wonder Woman, I suppose.

Having a new number is always great from a sales standpoint initially, but I'd much rather pick up the ball that Geoff started and carry it over the #100 issue mark. That will be great.

How does it feel to be the center of attention for one of the most rabid fandoms in comics?

I want to ask "is there any chance we'll see a Teen Titan rip that stupid cowl off of Tim's head?" but instead I'll go with:

Are we likely to see the Teen Titans crowd have any interaction or crossover with the evil Titans before Brightest Day wraps up?

Yep. That was me. I worked in production on Seinfeld starting during season 7 and on through the end in season 9. Actually, I'm in the finale - as G. Steinbrenner's valet driver.

Ok, here we go...

Due to the rapid change in writers that the Teen Titans had been going through for a while, there are several major plot points that haven't been touched on lately. I can think of a few off the top of my head, like Miss Martian's evil head-roommate, Wonder Girl's lasso, Brother Blood absorbing Kid Devil's powers, etc.

What's your strategy going in to a book that already has so much baggage built up around it? Will we be seeing many of these touched up on, or will you be trying to clear a path for new stories to be told?
ddf
Double Down View Post
Can't really get into that yet - but i will say this. Continuity and loose ends can be baggage, but they can also be great opportunities to be launching platforms for something big. I actually have a non-Titan idea that pulls from some lesser-used DC stories that I think would be great. Hopefully, someday you'll see it.

Hey guys, okay let's get this ball rolling. I tried to make Fathom Vol.3 as accessible as possible. The #0 issue catches you up on the broad strokes before jumping into the volume, but a lot happens in Volume Two - specifically revealing the connection between Aspen and the mythic figures known as the BLACK.

jt
ddf
JT Krul View Post
That leads me to this question: Is volume 2 still in print?

Aspen ran into a snag in the later part of last year and they are getting back on track. Everything is set for regular releasing and that should include Iris.
ddf
JT Krul View Post
Thanks for clearing that up.

Possibly, and hopefully a few villains slipped through so they have some ass to kick.
ddf
JT Krul View Post
Best answer so far.

Absolutely. I think they could really relate to one another.

Can we get a TT/Soulfire crossover then?
----------------

1) If Raven and Best Boy are still on the team, will you delve more into the drama that is their relationship? If so, will you try to stabilize it, rather that's as friends or as lovers?

2) If Raven is still on the team, would you like to go into her past and give us a deeper look at the Cult of Azarath and its beliefs and customs?

3) Do you think David Wohl has really come a long way since his days on Witchblade?

4) Who would win in a fight for best colorist in comics, Blond or Steigerwald?

5) How do you go about writing strong voices for female characters?

6) Which Donna Troy origin do you go with?

What did you think of Rose and Eddie's relationship.

What about the trend comics art books?
