Question The Official Smallville Season 7 Thread (SPOILERS for sure)

Opening day is next week, so I thought we'd kick off discussion right now.

One thing I do want to bring up is the use of spoiler tags. The title of the thread does mention spoilers, so the use of spoiler tags will not be necessary in the thread. Rumors and/or speculation are not spoilers either.

Now, a few tidbits on the upcoming season courtesy of Wikipedia's Smallville entry:

For season seven, Gough and Millar are planning to bring in Kara Zor-El, Clark's biological cousin. She will appear in approximately half of the season's episodes, beginning with the premiere. According to Gough and Millar, she was sent to look after Kal-El (Clark), but was stuck in suspended animation for sixteen years. When the dam broke in the Season six finale, "Phantom", she was set free. She will have all of Clark's abilities, as well as a few that he doesn't have at the moment, including the ability to fly.

Gough has stated that she will not wear any version of the Supergirl costume.

On July 6, 2007, TV Guide announced that Michael Cassidy was cast as the new editor of the Daily Planet. He will appear in at least six episodes of Season seven, and will act as a new love interest for Lois Lane.

On July 11, 2007, it was announced that Canadian actress Laura Vandervoort was cast as Kara.

ANOTHER love interest for Lois? Geez, who HASN'T Lois been interested in????

Oh, and recently it was revealed on the Superman home page that Dean Cain is due to guest star this seaon as Dr. Curtis Knox. I'm looking forward to that happening.

So let's jam on this people! Anyone watch the CW's preview show? The clips they showed make me drool for the season premiere....

I haven't seen ANY footage for the upcoming season...so I will absolutely have to check that out.
I am so stoked for the upcoming year. Last season rocked SO hard, so I hope they can keep that pace up, and with the addition of Kara to the cast, I am sure they will.
My only worry is that they won't find a way to recover Chloe. If she is REALLY dead, I will be beyond pissed

I thought that the first half of last season was great up to the "Justice" episode, then the second half going around Lana just felt like it tanked to me. I loved the finally and I am looking forward to seeing this season get off to a great start.

Another bit of info. This is Michael Rosenbaum's last season on the show. (anybody see him on Entertainment Tonight last week at his birthday party singing with Deborah Gibson?) Tom Welling is signed on for the season after this, but that doesn't guarantee that there WILL be a season 8. Only that he'll be paid for it.

Is it time to end the series? Have the stories all been told? Tom is THIRTY. At some point Clark has to become Superman. And I'm questioning how Clark's stories will be on the show with Martha being regulated to a part time player now, which I don't agree with but I saw that coming with Annette O'Toole being used so sparingly last season.

I do agree that last season was intense. It was like a cliffhanger from the 80's. EVERYONE DIED! Well, not really but you get the point. But to see Bizarro at the end...well...I haven't yelled like that while watching the show since I saw Clark at the end of season 4 throwing the crystal into the artic snow.

I used to think that they'd eventually kill off Chloe, but she's listed in the season 7 credits and now that DC Comics has acquired the rights to use her in the comics so I think she's safe. Now Lionel, HE'S another matter. At some point LuthorCorp has to become LexCorp. And Lionel wouldn't stand for that while he's alive, right?

I think they should end the show this season.

Adding Kara to the cast should help with that. Have Clark take a sabbatical midseason to train with Jor-El in the Fortress, and have Kara become the focal point of the show while he is gone to keep things moving. Then have Clark return toward the end of the season and start his transition into Superman, wrapping up all the loose ends from the show and moving him into the mythos we all know and love.
As much as I hate to say it though, to move things along, at some point, Chole does have to die. Lois will never change into the Lois we know while Chloe pretty much has that role locked down. And at some point Lex has to take the final plunge into evil by offing Lionel. All in all I think all that can be accomplished this season if they play their cards right, and end the show on one hell of a high note.
That would be the way to do it, IMO...doesn't mean they are.

Rosenbaum has finally made Lex into a bastard. I'm ready for this season.

Thanks. I wasn't sure if I was going to get in trouble for saying that word.

Superherohype has a trailer up.

I have not been able to watch it yet since I am at work but figured I would post it here right away.

It looks great! The fat one balances the two skinny ones.

Do you have any idea what the street value of this mountain is?

I'll probably folow the same routine as usual: Watch the first five or so episodes of the season, then stop when it starts to repeat itself.

I can't really see this show getting any worse, it has been very consistent in treading the waters of mediocre, without slipping into truly bad. I wouldn't be suprised if after this year they put Tom Welling into the pilot pasture, then relaunch as 'Supergirl' with a smaller, cheaper cast.

And while we are talking Smallville, did anyone ever notice that until Lex, all Lana's non-super boyfriends (Eric Johnson, Ian Somerhalder & Jensen Ackles) died horribly? Makes the JLI look like a safe club.
