Singer Thriller to Delay Superman SequelA return for Singer to the kind of film that made him great, is NOT a disappointment to this moviegoer. If he can deliver another US, I'll wait for a new Superman.

Hold the phone.... They're recasting Footballer's Wives to American TV? Have they not learned from Coupling? Yes, The Office works, mainly because the US Office seperated itself from the BBC's.

I think I would prefer a movie with no established villains. Maybe some situations that require Superman to show he's capable of being a thoughtful, intelligent, resourceful hero, establish someone new for him to battle, and introduce another hero in the DC universe.

Dougherty & Harris off Man Of Steel?
I wouldn't mind new script writers on the project. I wouldn't mind a total reboot or disregard of Returns but that's another thing!

It will be interesting to see who comes onboard if Dougherty and Harris don't return.

As much as I would dig this, I get this "Sean Young wants to be Catwoman" vibe from this story.....

I picture Mark Millar in a homemade Superman costume storming the WB lot, script in hand.

I just saw Superman Returns for the first time the other day on HBO. I thought it was a terrible movie. Almost as bad as Fantastic Four. No way am I going to see a sequel.

"Millar’s “starting from scratch” comment in regards to a sequel has some basis in the Hollywood rumor mill which Variety claims says that the studio will essentially pull a Hulk onSuperman Returns, that is, ignore or seriously downplay elements from Brian Singer’s movie (itself a “sequel” to Superman II), and start fresh, which is what Marvel is doing with it’s upcoming sequel to Ang Lee’s Hulk. Doing so would allow the franchise to jettison some of the trickier elements of the film, such as Superman’s son."

Best news I've heard in quite awhile, if it's true.

I liked the first movie, but I would've liked to see Superman have a fight with another superhuman. I know that's a typical complaint, but it's a valid one. I think Singer was trying to make the movie like the Donner version, with Superman having to stop an unnatural disaster instead of facing an opponent with super-powers. However, today's fans expect to see a physical confrontation between hero and villain, and the two usually need to be evenly matched.

I'd like to see Brainiac, in addition to Luthor, be the villains for the sequel.

The studio paid Singer a lot of money to helm the franchise and has Richard Donnor's blessings. If Singer wants his writing team in place they'll be there, IMO, unless it's their decision to leave. I'm a little leery on trusting AICN for news on this.

My apologies sir, but I think you are totally wrong. Superman Returns was So. Freaking. Awesome. Yes, some casting choices were wrong and Luthor was too campy, but damn if that didn't capture exactly what Superman is about. Watching that movie was like reading the best Superman comics, I remembered why this character mattered and was inspired. That is what Superman should be. Do not compare the trash of Fantastic Four to this.

I just threw up in my mouth a little after reading this. For one thing, tossing out all of Returns would mean tossing out Superman 1 and 2, effectively say three great movies don't matter. Also, Singer is a great director and the plans he stated for this movie are a must for the next Superman film (Brainiac vs. Supes? I'm in!).

Also, does anyone remember that thread a few months back about Millar's take on Superman? He wants to get rid of Lois and everything else. He thinks Superman thinks he's above everyone else, wants to get rid of Clark Kent, etc. etc. Millar on Superman would destroy Superman.

Worst news I've heard in quite awhile, if its true.

Superman Returns was a great film. DO NOT REBOOT!
