Default Avengers

I just reread Johns run on the Avengers. I was just wondering what the original plans for his run were. It seems like Jack of Hearts was only on the team as long as Johns was writing it. I liked him and wish he was still around. Anyone else want to comment on that run?

I believe Geoff had had something planned with the Masters of Evil.

I loved his spotlight on Falcon, Geoff totally redeemed the character with his story...

He also did a great job with Gyrich and made him somewhat likable.

What were the issues he wrote? Number-wise I mean.

Avengers Vol. 3 #57-76 He got a good 20 issues in. They did have them out in trade, but after he went exclusive with DC they never tried to keep them in print.

IMO I think that when Geoff wrote the Avengers we saw the true character and version of Captain America that was ever done.

I would pretty much agree, there is just one thing, and this is now six years after the fact, that still bothers me. In issue # 63 there is this scene where Thor and Iron Man are duking it out & I believe it was a general, tells his men basically to attack. Cap tells them no (well, gives them a speech but basically tells them no). There is a slight pause & they stand down. Now, I realize it is comics and not reality & soldiers are individual thinking beings but shouldn't at least ONE of the soldiers at least tried to follow the orders of his C.O.? Can you imagine if it ever came to the level of a courtmartial? This poor corporal or PFC and asked "Why didn't you follow the General's orders?" "Well sir, it's like this sir, Captain America told me not to." "Captain America you say? Well all charges are naturally dismissed. Glad to see you readily obey a national icon in a mask. Did I neglect to mention I see you as great potential officer material?"

The only problem with Geoff's run was that he had to kill of Jack of Hearts. He would have been a great addition to the new Guardians of the Galaxy.

Loved his run on Avengers. Jack of Hearts was a personal fav (and Yellowjacket was it?). Havent read it in a while, and I was sorry he left. This was my only time buying Avengers, but it did get me into Ultimates, because most the avengers from Geoff's run got the boot when the reboot happened.

Red Zone is still one of my favorite storylines. I reread it every once in awhile. I remember Geoff mentioning in an interview that he hopes Red Zone is up there with the other classic Avengers stories.

It is in my book.

Anyone thats interested should be glad to know Marvel is slowly putting out his entire Avengers run in hardcovers, naturally I assume to catch readers by putting his name in HUGE letters on the cover of each one. I liked his run and have it all in individual issues, back when I just a new reader and wasn't sure who Geoff Johns was.

Here's what I mean with the covers:

While I don't think Geoff's Avengers run was his best stuff. I do love Red Zone. It was awesome....but I've never been a big fan of Copiels art...

And I do have the Red Zone trade....it's a great story.....
