Default My problem with Superman Returns *spoiler*

OK, I did like this movie overall but my problem is with the kid being Supermans'. Lois either knew all along or when she realized was ok with it because they got it on in Superman 2. HOWEVER!!!!! Supes wiped her mind clean of any rememberance of the events in that movie with a kiss. Am I missing something here? Shouldn't Lois be upset about this?

I just kinda took it that he only wiped her mind of him being Clark, but she still remembered their night together.

A good movie would have actually bothered explaining this.

All good movies do my laundry!

Seriously, do you have a thought on the point I referenced?

yeah, that it isn't explicitly using everything in superman 2, so, unless it gets referenced, don't worry about it?

hate it because you hate it, don't hate it with nit pickery. that's just obnoxious and boring.

Some people theorize that the kiss only took away Lois' memory over her discovery that Superman = Clark Kent and not the time she spent with Superman.

There's also a good deal of question concerning whether Lois ever realized that Jason WAS Superman's. The movie seems to present to us that Lois really does think that Jason is Richard's kid.

So I think they're trying to present that Superman hooks up with Lois, Superman leaves the planet, Lois hooks up with Richard, Jason is born under the assumption its Richard's.

It's not nitpicking, it's a MAJOR PART OF THE NEW MOVIE and it needs an explanation. This is a plot hole that you can ride Krypton through, and it's supposed to keep continuity from Superman 2. Otherwise, definite thumbs up and looking forward to a sequel. Bizarro would be cool but Doomsday would be awesome.

hey, to be honest, i only remembered that Lois and Supes got it on...i forgot all about the "kiss and forget" thing, so this didn't bother me at all........probably like most people who saw the movie but don't know Superman 1 and 2 like most fanboys.

This didn't really bother me. SOmething that people seem to be missing is that this movie is the spiritual successor to the Richard Donner movies, but not a direct sequel. So we ought not to take SUperman I & II as the literal backstory to these films. All that matters is that at some time in the past Superman and Lois had a relationship which resulted in a child.

Take 3.

It's a thematic sequel, not a literal one; utlilizing the tone of the first two films rather than the exact details.

All you need to know, you can gather from this one film. That Superman and Lois were in love and had sex, before he felt compelled to leave in search of answers about his past.

But if you wanna be fickle and get your fanboy on, one could suggest that Clark's kiss erased her memory of his dual identity only. After all, forgetting that Superman and Clark are one and the same isn't the same as forgetting you slept with Superman.

I always thought this point was clear and obvious. From interviews, to the trailers, this was always the impression I had of this film.

It exists on IT'S OWN. All info you need to know, is given to you within the context of THIS FILM. If you happen to be one of the few people left who don't know Superman's origins, go watch Superman: the movie. That was always the only way I interpeted Bryan Singer when he said this was a "sequel of sorts" to those earlier films.

My problem with the SR movie was how humans are so stupid. Clark goes missing and so does Superman for 5 years. Hmmmmmm??????? Even in the movie there was suspicion on how Clark can be Superman. Here is my 2 cents Clark Kent should of been killed off or just went missing etc... I know it CK is so much of the Superman character but Singer gave Superman a kid and if fans can acceppt SM having a kid I am pretty sure fans can deal with the death of CK. The movie was far from bad but it wasn't the best SM movie. SR had pretty much the same essence of SM 1,2,3.
How could you not think Routh is Reeve clone. He looked like a young Reeve. Same with Spacey with his Hackman like acting.

I loved the movie but I sorta agree with you. I feel like they've opened a door they can never close again till the next set of Superman movies. It bothers me a little.

I've just seen it again, and it was even more beautiful the second time around. *Sigh*

There are enough gaping holes in the plot of "Superman Returns" on its own without worrying about the first set of films.

Pictures pretty! Story bad.
