That's an interesting article and it speaks to a possible meltdown of epic proportions.

So, the question is, how could this happen? Geoff is chief creative officer. Isn't it his job to make sure that these translations into other media work? If this movie is as bad as all these reviews indicate, there's no way that it will make the kind of numbers that Iron Man did. It may end up as a significant loss of money.

I'm just befuddled. How could DC Entertainment drop the ball yet again with so much on the line?

I have to agree. If GL is as bad as people are saying, it is difficult to fathom how a large company can allow this to just happen...

I'm still hopeful it's good. I think the trailers look amazing.

Just back from seeing it. Overall very enjoyable, but a little different than I had thought it would be based on the trailers as felt it a little bit light on the other Green Lanterns (though what was there was well done). Probably one of the more even superhero outings other than Batman, acted well throughout and both action and character stuff was well done.
One thing I thought it really lacked was a decent soundtrack, was pretty light on themes with nothing else to enhance what was happening. In comparison I enjoyed this much more than Thor. No idea how it will do at the box office, fear it might fall just on the wrong side of the 3D bubble if recent weekends hold true.
As a GL fan I'd give it an 8/10, as it could have just been a little bit more.

The IGN review isn't wrong but what is there is much better than they say, just don't go expecting much space/corp/Sinestro action, which is a pity cause the effects for that side of things is really good.

There is ONE review I found and read earlier today that does give this movie some love link here: http://www.bleedingcool.com/2011/06/...green-lantern/

Jade: I'll take care of it for you, Obie.

One thing to keep in mind is that a lot of these reviews are written by people who aren't fans like us.

That's true of most superhero movies though. Thor got 77% fresh and X-Men: First Class has 87% fresh and the Dark Knight had 94% fresh. It doesn't necessarily mean anything but it certainly puts things in context.

but the success of these movies will be determined by people who are not fans like us. If this movie was only for comic people it would be a huge flop. Warner is pushing that people who aren't fans will push it over the top.

Golly gee, do I agree. I did the math on another thread and being VERY generous, catering to the fans recoups a little over 10% of the films budget.

That would make this film Oa's Gate.

I don't know if that's really true if you count sci- fi fans and guys who just like action movies. But, belive me, if it gets us a sequel, I'll take as many of Lively's Gossip Girl fans seeing it as I can get. By the way, I saw her on Leno last night talking about some guy who works on that show trying to tell her about Star Sapphire and Parallax. (must have been some conversation)

This.

If you need to see an example of what happens when a movie is made "for the fans", see Watchmen. I personally loved it, and know quite a few "fans of the comic" who did as well. But the general public opinion was that the movie was crap.
