Default Official Iron Fist movie discussion thread!

There's talk that the film will still happen, and director Steve Carr gives us a little update on the film.

http://www.superherohype.com/news/topnews.php?id=5410

Iron Fist director Steve Carr talked to Rotten Tomatoes about the comic book adaptation:

When I have the opportunity, we'll figure it out but there's a long line of comic books getting made into films and he's kind of like a smaller star of that galaxy," said Carr. "So I don't know when it's going to happen honestly."

Given his druthers, Carr knows how he'd go with "Iron Fist." "I'd love it to be kind of dark and almost kind of chop-socky kind of vibe, but it feels like there's a lot of comic book heroes they want to make first."

Steve Carr Waits In Marvel Queue for "Iron Fist" Production

Posted by Jen Yamato on Thursday, Mar. 29, 2007, 08:21 AM

Ftopel writes: "Steve Carr has been announced as the director for the Marvel Comics film "Iron Fist," but he is planning to make other projects first. It's not that he's not excited about it, it's just that Marvel is kind of busy.

"When I have the opportunity, we'll figure it out but there's a long line of comic books getting made into films and he's kind of like a smaller star of that galaxy," said Carr. "So I don't know when it's going to happen honestly."

Given his druthers, Carr knows how he'd go with "Iron Fist." "I'd love it to be kind of dark and almost kind of chop-socky kind of vibe, but it feels like there's a lot of comic book heroes they want to make first."

Marvel has started a trend of using comedy directors to make their superhero movies. Carr would follow Tim Story. "Yeah, Tim Story's a friend of mine. We came up and he's a video guy. He's a really great guy. I think it would be a really interesting opportunity and I'm hoping that it starts to happen a little bit quicker."

Perhaps "Fist" would get going if Jon Favreau's "Iron Man" wasn't stealing all its thunder. "See, I don't have enough Iron in my title. He has 'Iron Man,' I only have a fist. I should have Hot Iron Body. That would get me done first, or Steel Something."

What do you guys think? I think it could be great to have Iron Fist's film get going. He has his own ongoing The Immortal Iron Fist, plus he's now a New Avenger. If this is done right it could be one of Marvels coolest martial arts films.

chop socky?
that doesn't sound too good to me!

Luke Cage and Iron Fist would be a much better movie in my opinion.

I still maintain my opinion that a Cage and Iron Fist heroes for hire tv series would work well if done right.

Why? I think it's just an expression...The idea of it being dark sounds good. I hope they use some ideas for the movie based of of Iron Fist's new ongoing.

New director please. Call up a Mr. Bryan Singer.

Is Ray Park attached to star? I remember hearing that he's been trying to get an Iron Fist movie going and star in it. He'd be amazing for the film.

Superman Returns was a great film. DO NOT REBOOT!

I don't know if he's still attached. I'd love to see the new series on the screen. It's the best Iron Fist has ever been, barring maybe, some Deadly hands appearances and the Powerman & stuff.

Why a new director? Marvel stated that they want director's who've done comedies to direct some of the projects, Like Tim Story directing the Fantastic Four and the sequel.

I don't know if he's still attached. I'd love to see the new series on the screen. It's the best Iron Fist has ever been, barring maybe, some Deadly hands appearances and the Powerman & stuff.

Yeah the story from Iron Fist's new series should be the story, I agree. I also think Steel Serpent should be the villain. He's really cool in the new ongoing.

He could be, but with the movie back on track they might recast the role.

Get Tarrantino and Rodriuez to do the flick . Put Luke Cage in it with Iron Fist with action, sex, violence then you have a movie that will get more attention than the crappy Marvel movies like ELektra,FF,Daredevil,X3. I would like to see it in a late 70's setting. Please don't cast hip hop stars and Ben Affleck

From Latino Review:
Director Malcolm Lee On Iron Fist And Power Man
Still at the junket for Soul Men during the roundtable questioning, Malcolm Lee mentioned comic book movies. So I asked him what he would be interested in doing when he said Iron Fist and Power Man.

Lee: You got a white karate dude and a big blaxplotation dude. I want it to be an action-comedy.

Any idea on who you'd like to see play the roles?

Lee: I don't know.

What about Michael Jai White? He'd be good. He works out at my gym, he'd be a good Cage.
[Ya, ya, ya. I know I'm always on Michael Jai White's dick, but I think he'd be a good fit.]

Lee: I don't know. You gotta have somebody's who's funny.

I'm gonna tell him you said he wasn't funny.

Lee: (laughs) I didn't say he wasn't funny! I didn't say that!

I also asked him if it was his intention to make it a comedy movie and he said he wanted it to be in the vein of Bad Boys. Not Bad Boys II, but Bad Boys as far as the comedy dynamic between the two.

I like Malcolm Lee, so hopefully he can get this project off the ground!

From Variety: Marvel's hiring writers -Team to adapt characters into films

With more than 5,000 crime fighters and villains in its library, Marvel Entertainment is looking for some help in adapting those characters into films.
Comicbook giant is readying to assemble a group of scribes who will pen scripts for various properties Marvel wants to develop.

The writers group will be similar to that created by the fellowship program the Walt Disney Co. has been running since 1990. Latter enlists a dozen scribes to work with creative execs to develop films for the studio and TV shows for ABC, the Disney Channel and ABC Family.

Marvel will invite up to five writers each year to work on specific projects, said a source familiar with the deal. Those could include staffers behind Marvel's comicbooks. Tenpercenteries around town are currently pitching potential candidates with writing samples.

The company will provide the specific pitches it wants the scribes to tackle. Those could involve certain plot points for movies already in development or characters it would like to see in its future film slate.

Gathering of scribes will help Marvel come up with creative ways to launch its lesser-known properties, such as Black Panther, Cable, Doctor Strange, Iron Fist, Nighthawk and Vision.

So far, it has focused its efforts on more popular superheroes
