Default Wolfman-Perez Titans Being Pretty Much Wiped From Continuity

Saw this over on another forum-- a Q&A with Didio.

Yeah, I probably won't make it into this justice league panel so here goes some highlights of my conversation with Dan Didio
SpeedsterSite Brandan
You will not be seeing Wally for the foreseeable future.
SpeedsterSite Brandan
Dan stated that the Perez era TT were very difficult to deal with because of their age.
SpeedsterSite Brandan
Dan specifically stated that Wally's kids were a big reason why he's off the board.
SpeedsterSite Brandan
When asked why iris and jai were aged up in the first place, Dan admitted poor planning
SpeedsterSite Brandan
Dan mentioned that Donna Troy is off the board as well, especially because her similarities to Diana are too great.
SpeedsterSite Brandan
He said its hard and very difficult to accept but eventually the perez era will be gone.

Great, so the book that put DC back on the map when it was floundering is getting kicked aside. Who needs Wally or Raven or Donna anyway? I'm done, DC. There's about 0% chance that this won't be a massive backfire on DC's part. What a sad mess this reboot is turning out to be.

You know, the thing that gets me most about all of this is that they can find a way for a de-aged Bruce to have gone through three Robins (two of whom are now adults), and have a tweenage son who is serving as Robin #4 (but can't have had a female Robin!), but think that it's too complicated to have have Donna and Diana in the same univese, or Wally and Barry. Or have more than one Batgirl.

I'm so bummed right now. The Wolfman/Perez era of Titans are some of the best comics I've ever read. They should be trying to make more books like that rather then tossing the era aside.

I hate the argument against Donna. The best way to have them be different is just to go back to the Titans of Myth origin of Donna and leave out any connection to Wonder Woman other then respect and friendship. Maybe even change Donna's hair color if they don't want to look so much alike.

Oh does anyone have a link to the actual Q/A that's been posted. I've seen a number of references but haven't see any links at all.

Agreed. It's utterly absurd.

But hey, at least we get "Bugg."

Wish there were someone who would ask "What's happening to the New Teen Titans" over at SDCC for all to hear instead of all of those 'the DCnU is graet!' comments.

...someone just did something close to it...there was a Teen Titans team before Lobdell's...but no info on membership

I doubt everything is wiped out. First off, Cyborg, Starfire and Raven are still around. I'm sure Gar's time with the team is still in continuity. Titans Tower will most likely still exist. Deathstroke, Brother Blood, Trigon, the H.I.V.E., Blackfire, Psions, the Citadel, Fearsome Five, etc. You can't wipe all that out from the DCU, they're too ingrained into it as well as being some pretty damn good concepts for comics. Too good too simply wipe away.

Slowly but surely they'll worm their way back into the DCU. A lot sooner than Kara and Barry did after being killed off in COIE.

Well thats the problem, one of the newsarama feeds stated Cyborg is a founder of the Justice League, meaning he cant have been a part of the Teen Titans (unless it was a covert team like Stormwatch apparently is). Starfire is around but we dont know if she's ever been a member or if she just landed in Jasons lap in the initial landing. As for Raven and Garfield...no word on where they are, at all (or if they are even alive (could have died heroically earlier on)). But if DC can wipe out NTT for being 'too difficult to write', Wally for being 'too old' and Donna for being 'too much like Diana'. Then theres nothing they cant rewrite.

They confirmed that Starfire's relationship with Dick Grayson has happened before....

There have been previous Teen Titans teams....

And Brett Booth posted he's drawn Wally West and Donna Tro in Teen Titans, no doubt as a flashback to the past.

They said everything up to Young Justice happened. Superboy is the same clone we know and love, he simply never died in Infinite Crisis and never dated Cassie and never formed a bond with Bart and Tim, yet.

They also never said that Victor/Cyborg remained a member of the League in every version. He may have left after a year and joined the Titans. Who knows.

DCnU? We'll see....

FROM CBR 52 Panel:

The question of the status of the original "New Teen Titans" stories came up with Lobdell promising that the legacy of all the Teen Titans teams over the years will be respected while Johns promised that even though Cyborg is being established as a Justice Leaguer five years in the past, the door is left open at the end of "Justice League's" first arc for him to go join the Titans as chronicled by Wolfman and Perez.

So let me get this straight. Dan has one version - NTT will be eventually wiped. And Lobdell has another - NTT continuity will be intact, or most of it. And Johns 'is leaving the door open.'

Um I wonder who has most authority in this picture? If they double talk around it now to appease fans, but then eventually the NTT really are wiped, it will be time to cash in the chips and leave the casino. Those are some of DC's best stories ever done. If they wipe them, then it shows they've lost their path.

The stories still exist in back issues, so we still have our memories. I guess DC is super desperate right now, so hopefully this huge gamble pays off for them. I don't like it, but maybe a bunch of new fans will.

What makes me most sad about this reboot is that Vic and Gar will probably not even know each other anymore, if Gar even still exists at all. I'm sure he will get reintroduced eventually, but it won't ever be the same. Their friendship was my favorite part of the TNTT era.

Everyone cheer - come on we're all suspose to drink the kool-aid, <sigh> Is there anything out of this that I'm not going to be irked about. Chances are shrinking by the minute.

I really wish the people at DC would just give a straight answer. I understand not wanting to give important things away. But if one person is saying one thing and another is saying another thing and a third is saying a third thing, someone needs to step up and give a straight answer.

I can't believe we've been reduced to grasping at these tiny straws. I can't believe we're insanely grateful if DC decides on a whim after some board meeting to spare this or that Titan from the chopping block, or to save some little shred of Titans continuity. I can't believe Didio is considering wiping it all - no matter what Lobdell and Johns are saying, you heard it straight from DD.

I can't believe it's gotten as bad as where it is now - and looking at the DCnU YJ it's only going to get worse. This YJ tortured Titans thing is a nightmare inside a nightmare. The notion that Gar and Vic might 'get' to be friends in this new continuity to appease the fans is - mind boggling.

I've seen people on various boards say that you have to read the book to know one way or another. Give me a break. Look at this stuff! I get what they are trying to do - new digital formats, changing media, extracting genre pulp tropes out of the superhero stuff and setting up some genre titles.

But they are showing us in so many ways that they do not understand the Titans. Never mind the poor conceptions evident in the TT previews. If DCnU tanks, do you know how many years it will take to undo the damage that is being done, if ever? My only hope is that this is all a set up for the 2012 event.
