Default Not a reboot?

I am pretty confused how DC can claim this is not A reboot.
The TT seem to be starting from square one with new origins, isn't that a reboot??

From a continuity angle this reboot affects the TT more than most.

-was Cyborg ever a Titan?
-has Starfire just arrived on Earth?
-how did Nightwing get his name??
-do Donna and Wally even exist?
-Will Gar be replaced by the new Aqualad?
-Roy has his arm back, does this negate his daughter?
-was there ever a Doom Patrol? If not then where is Beast Boy??

It appears that almost all TT and NTT history is now gone.

I'm guessing that...

DC doesn't consider it a reboot because some continuity carries over.

Reboot has negative connotations to the fans (what happened before doesn't matter so why buy comics for a few months?)

Relaunch sounds "exciting"

The whole thing reminds me of Marvel's Heroes Reborn but on a larger scale.

It's not a relaunch it's not a reboot it's a rebound, the ball is still in play only they missed the mark and now it's a maelstrom of hands trying to snag the ball into different directions with no one having a firm grasp as it arcs back toward the crowd.

We have stuff that screams silver age, stuff that screams 90's, a ton of genre books outside of the superhero staples, it's a sampler platter thrown at the wall some of it will cling to the wall, some will bounce to the floor, and some will slide down.

It would be simpler if it was a pure reboot(back to origins silverage or whatever) if it was a relaunch across the board a bold new direction but it's neither from what i can tell. It's a hodgepodge.

i think the more and more we see, the more it seems apparent that the Teen Titans (until "now") never existed.

Being it's a Flash event, and being that the Titans seem to be nowhere, it seems more and more certain something is going to happen to Wally that derails various bits of continuity:

without Wally, Gar and Dick don't try and form the Teen Titans, there's no Titans for Raven to reach out for when daddy Trigon comes, Cyborg/Starfire go elsewhere rather than join the Titans, and other characters just sorta fix themselves.

Also, Dick got the name Nightwing from Superman :P

Superman being "the 1st hero" and the Teen Titans being brand new (and never met) negates a LOT of stuff.

Relaunch implies it's ALL new.

What is mainly confusing to me is why they are trying to hold onto so much of the Bat history and Green Lantern history? Maintaining the Legion history (more or less) doesn't impact the other characters, so that one is easy.

Because creators with clout are working on those franchises, plain and simple.

If i am to find any positive hopes about this removal of NTT history; It will be that Raven wasnt turned away by the JLA, or rather; Zatanna's bad vibes. maybe it will mean she's actually moved of from the rise and fall thats been more of less defining her for pretty much all her years.

Yup. And the double standard is kind of gross. Krul was doing some really solid work and the team finally seemed to be on track for a bright future. I could not be more annoyed or resentful about DC running roughshod over the Titans especially while other franchises are relatively untouched.

The whole reboot debacle has disaster written all over it.

I thought it was more a matter of sales than creator clout. GL and Batman are DC's top sellers right now, so they get a pass.

Teen Titans, which was still recovering (very nicely) from a couple of years of crap, had not yet achieved the numbers to be safe, and I guess the Superboy title was not selling as well as I'd thought. Or else this plan got set in motion before the book could prove itself.

But yeah, the cherry-picking on the Extreme Makeovers feels like an insult.

Nah, the Batbooks, Lantern titles and Morrison writing Superman will carry DC through. There will be a lot of titles that don't make it, and will probably be dropped rather than fixed, but if the lesser titles aren't selling now, DC must feel there's nothing to lose.

Except us, and they seem okay with that.

- Because the Bat fans like the mess of a situation that's been created, and DC's too scared to get rid of it. Which is fine if it's current continuity, but with a relaunch it's just a big, confusing mess and it should've been wiped away.

- Because before Geoff did all that? Green Lantern sold like crap. After he spent six years world building? Well. Check the charts. You Don't Throw That Away. Batman always sells because he's Batman, but I just don't see GL doing so well if you reset to "Hal Jordan is Green Lantern".

Though if I had my way, they would anyway, and we'd just start things off with four Green Lanterns being chosen for a specific purpose.
