Default House of the Wolf Man

These look fantastic

I'm a horror junkie, and seeing these photos made my jaw drop. This is either going to be the worst movie ever, or one of the best. Old School, all-ages monster horror action. Never heard of this thing before today, and now I wish I could watch it right this minute.

Trailer on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W1G9NdiRreY

I've watched the trailer a couple of times now and I REALLY hope this move gets released (as some independent fair never gets a real or wide release).

The bit at around 1:09 where the Frankenstein Monster tosses the Wolf-Man gave me shivers!

Why is that?

Are you afraid it'll be nothing more than a pastiche or a send-up of the old films?

Or you not sure based on the trailer?

But what causes the concern? Just don't think it'll be good? Think it'll be too campy or too modern or too self-conscious with its past setting and B&W?

Getting flashbacks to "The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra" form a while back. That was an okay movie, but it didn't really live up to its premise.

That was a modern attempt to make a B-movie, but with the goofiness and self awareness cranked all the way up.

Don't know what to think of it as well, but if I had to say anything it will be:

too modern or too self-conscious with its past setting and B&W?

Lost Skeleton was a comedy (and I think its creators would admit that); as far as I know HotWM is supposed to be straightforward new "classic universal style" film.

I think its because I'm not quite sure what it is, what its supposed to be.

Homage? Parody? Goofy fun? And what is Ron Chaney's part in it?

Believe me, I like good Uni-Mon homages as much as the next person, even parodies, but I'd like to get some idea of what it is first.

AFAIK its an homage, shot in B&W and 1:33 aspect ratio like the original Uni films.

It is my understanding - but I could be wrong - that its not supposed to be a comedy, parody or "ironic".

Ron Chaney is playing a doctor who invites five people to his mansion under the premise that one of them will inherit the place, only to find that they're trapped in the mansion with monsters with an elimination contest being held to determine the winner.

The director, Eben McGarr said that the film is supposed to "slip seamlessly in with the other two movies [House of Frankenstein, House of Dracula]" and supposedly has no more gore/language/sex than would be seen in those films.

I think if played straight, it could be a lot of fun. It's hard to tell with the trailer if it will be or not. Either way, I'm impressed with the makeup and the general tone, even if we don't fully know the intended tone.

Well, I'm going to give it a shot if it comes out. I too was thinking "Lost Skeleton", but without the humor.

I'm thinking this is more of a homage to the old Universal movies.

Of course this won't stand up to them but it looks fun.

By "slipping seamlessly" I'm guessing they mean thematically, not literally. Those are generic, non-licensed monsters, of course.

I did get a kick out of the Bela stand-in doing the famous Dracula '31 pose

Yeah, obviously it can't slip in with the existing films in terms of using the copyrighted Universal makeup.

Wouldn't it be quite nifty if they could get permission from Uni to use their Classic make-ups ala those guys who do those Paramount-sanctioned Star Trek films on the 'Net?
