Oh yeah!
Infernorhythm will be rejoicing (wherever he is), because I'm gonna mention Breach, which I only read very late. I was attracted by Marcos Martin, but stayed for the story (although Martin is amazing).

I really liked BREACH too, it had a strong opening in that first issue in which the run really felt like you were putting pieces to a puzzle together.

CHASE would count (and was a very good book) with only 10 issues; CREEPER had 12.

CHRONOS wouldn't count since it was the book renewed over CHASE (& a few others possibly including CREEPER) but then the creators left the title, effectively cancelling it.

DC "Weirdoverse" title SCARE TACTICS would count (hey, I liked it) but not CHALLENGERS OF THE UNKNOWN (18 issues), FATE (28 issues) or BOOK OF FATE (12 issues but a retooling/relaunch of the FATE book) by the guidelines set out.

I'm not sure if NIGHT FORCE would count - only 12 issues during the "Weirdoverse" run but was a relaunch of a title that had 14 issues (and now has another 7 issues).

Other titles that may count for consideration include Prez, Brother Power the Geek, Marvel's MANDRAKE THE MAGICIAN mini, Sonic Disruptors, and All-Winners Squad: Band of Heroes.

I'd say it gets dicier going back further than the Silver Age as evidence for why titles were cancelled are less clear (and double features and anthologies makes things less clean - Ibis the Invincible had 6 issues...but that was over 6 years and 155 appearances in parent title WHIZ COMICS). But even some bronze age titles aren't certain either (Marvel's Living Mummy headlined 10 issues of an anthology but never held his own book and the anthology ran 17 issues, IIRC).

I didn't want to be super picky, but I was most interested in thinking about shorter run on-going books that got the axe, but were loved by those who did read it. I actually thought about saying under "about 18 or less" issues, but in the end went with 12. If some one wants to add, short term relaunches of a book, that was fairly different than the one before - who am I to really argue too much.

Scott, sorry for cutting your first suggestion, I guess I was trying to keep the focus and hope it didn't come across as snide - not my intention.

I was just trying to have a feel good thread to remind us of some great little gems and perhaps even point out to others (or even for myself) a selection of great reads.

Have fun - cause we (and I guess I should say me) do tend to take comics too seriously too much of the time, eh...

Nah, it's cool - I guess as a biased Atom fan it comes across as a short prematurely canceled series since it only takes a day for me to read the whole thing.

did this even make it to issue 2?

Nope. Granted, Kevin Smith got sidetracked but he did submit a full script later on. Marvel chose not to finish it.

Manhunter by Marc Andreyko.

I was SO hoping we'd see Kate and Marc reunited in the New52.

Actually no, it was Empowered.

Under the rules though, I think SWORD was criminally underrated.

I always thought it was a shame they didn't let Aztek run a few more issues until Morrison absolutely exploded with JLA.

I bet it'd have run a lot longer if it'd had just that little gap filled.

The Minx.

Peter Milligan. Sean Phillips.

also, Deadenders. Brubaker. Warren Pleece. sometimes Philip Bond.

this was the market shifting on Vertigo, methinks.

Preacher, Transmet, and The Invisibles were ending...
some good books getting overlooked.
