While I have been on the side of the fence that is ok with this interpretation, it did make me sad to hear a little boy ask his mom:

SPOILER. Highlight below text to read

Is he still a superhero if he kills people?

Again, when I saw it people gasped, so I don't think it's been taken in a bad way overall, but it is sad to think that some new people will be turned off like this.

dollars to doughnuts, they use Luthor to swoop in and make the neck-snapping thing a deal and all of the xenophobic, fearmongering stuff in the sequel...and then we finally get a kumbaya moment in the third film when we deal with all of these safety & trust issues head-on in the form of blowing up a fictional country called Bialya.

This seems most likely. I don't know what exactly they plan for the second movie (personally, I'm pulling for a Myxzptlk movie where he plays with superman's doubts and fears in the wake of his Zod-decision...but alas, probably not). I have a feeling we're definitely getting Doomsday for movie 3. Follow the Batman arc tightly (as we've followed a few beats already with movie 1)

Some people are reporting to have seen the Brainiac symbol displayed in the background of one of the ruined Kryptonian outposts.

You know I heard it here once, someone summed up Superman by saying that he was the one you most wanted to see when things got bad and it seemed like all was lost. That you didn't know how he'd do it but that he would somehow make things work out somehow and you'd invariably survive.

I am sorry that it seems like a simple value like inspiring confidence and hope and security in others is an ability that folks don't wish to see anymore in the 'modern' Superman.

Yes, what a horrible thing for the archtype of the superhero....the guy with SUPER in his name to illicit, a sense of security. Who doesn't want a hero in your city that just makes you think every time the ice maker goes on that he's about to come crashing through your building?

THAT'S a hero.

There's one scene that totally describes it for me. Zod through a gasoline carrier at Superman. Superman flies/hovers over it and doesn't even look to see if anything is behind him. When the truck hits the building behind him and explodes (destroying the building), he never even reacts. Right there is everything wrong with this Superman. You say it's Goyer explaining his choices, I say it's Goyer rationalizing disaster porn.

And I did it without random bolding.

Not a perfect movie (but then again, nothing is except the first Ghostbusters) but it was a heck of a lot of fun and had some amazing scenes.

Glad it's making so much money, hopefully this leads to a Justice League movie in the future!

How did Clark, wanderer and day laborer, become qualified to be a reporter at the Planet?

Clark spent the last 15? years creating whole false identities for himself ( one good enough to get onto a government dig site ). It would definitively give him enough experience to fake some college transcripts for Clark Kent.

Okay THAT stuff was stupid. She gets out of the cop car and starts yelling CLARK!!! CLARK!!! As for her knowing off the bat...not really a problem for me.

See I don't mind that...because...with all of the crazy $%#& going on (if it was REALLY happening) she WOULD be yelling Clark and not been worried about protecting his secret. At that moment.

I thought Amy Adams did a great job. My favorite version of Lois actually. Which isn't saying much as I haven't ever really cared for any of the big or small screen Lois Lanes.

Overall I really love the movie. And the $%$storm that it has caused makes it even more enjoyable.

Zack Snyder speaks at length about the decision to have
Code:
Superman kill General Zod in order to save a family of innocents. He reveals that in the original version of the script the character was simply once again banished to the Phantom Zone, but Snyder was adamant that Kal-El should kill Zod -- because otherwise where does his aversion to killing originate from?

I suppose it couldn't be just plain old decency. Why, I never had an aversion to killing until right after I slaughtered that family of five. Live and learn!

It's interesting to see comic fans so completely upset by some of the decisions in the movie.

The climax is so much better as a character building exercise than the weightless ending of Iron Man 3.
