Default "...Everything comes from Superman."

So says Alex Luthor.

I don't know if this has been discussed in other threads but I'm guessing that this is because big blue is the original comic book superhero. Is Geoff gonna elaborate on this in the final two issues of IC? I think it's quite a clever plot point.

I thought so too! There are a couuple of comic book heroes that pre-date Superman but none that had the same impact.

I think Kal-L's will is the key. He can do anything. NOTHING stops Superman once he sets his mind to do something.

Until Lois died anyway.

I just read it as a clever nod from Geoff to Supes being the first superhero and in essence the beginning of the DCU ... I guess there could be more to it than that.

But think about maybe the way the universe works , it gives its world a Superman first and it becomes a catalyst for other heroes. \

Earth 2- first powered hero SUPERMAN
Earth 1- superman
Earth Prime -SUperboy prime
just a theroey, maybe earth 9 the post ic earth will start with superman

"A perfect world wouldn't need a Superman."

Alex is making a perfect world. Think about it.

I still hold fast to my theory that Alex is possessed by the Anti-Monitor...

I personally think that Geoff has been working in many meta-textual references in IC.

I wouldn't be surprised, since Morrison has some doing in the shape of the "new" DCU that there will be some breaking of the 4th wall in the resolution of this Crisis.

I think it's clever and poetic (and I love the term "meta-textual" - even that is apropos).

All the best...

Exactly. The perfect world part.

I don't think he's possessed by the Anti-Monitor though. He mentioned earlier that Supermen and Luthors would always be enemies. So the perfect world for him would be a world without a Superman.

Yeah I think this was fourth wall stuff, and wont be explained. Seriously imagine comics where war stories and westerns...then someone (guys) have an idea to give some one super powers and put him in a book.....quiet a risk...but looks like it paid off

Oh metas, they make us all happy. Personally I think Alex will go into what makes Supes, and specifically Kal-L so important. I think one of the themes IC will end with is the idea that it is important that Supes be the First Superhero, and that no matter how hard Kal-El tried to lead by example, it's totally different, no matter how much he does, to be the original, defining hero.

And yes, that extends to the important of highly numbered books like Action and the newly numbered Superman book. Everyone who reads comics SHOULD read Action Comics, the originator, and DC is going to do its best to get us all on board.

Exactly!! I think he's looking for the perfect world that a Luthor...any Luthor can thrive in, without the constant threat of a Superman!
