Default If There Were a New DC Explosion...

With the recent revelation that DC is going to go for the top spot in the Diamond sales charts, one would have to think that there will be a slew of new titles coming down the pike. I doubt even DC thinks that they can reach their goal by simply improving their current slate so I can only think that we're about to see a new DC Explosion similar to the one in the mid-70's.

So lets say that DC is looking to create a dozen or so new books, for the sole purpose of increasing market share. Which books would DC be likely be looking at? My ideas...

1-Firestorm
2-Hawkman
3-The Atom
4-Ghost Detectives
5-The Rogues
6-Shazam!
7-Kid Flash
8-Superboy
9-Aquaman
10-Nightwing (once BW returns)
11-Martian Manhunter
12-Dr Fate

My only thought was a month later came the Great DC Implosion, Killed some good stuff back then. Don't care about market share really just quality that hopefully leads to sales 1st -10th or 50th don't matter to much.

Quality over quantity is key, I agree.

There are some doors open for some cool new series if they follow up on Blackest Night, which I imagine they will do.

Hawkman (or revive Atom/Hawkman) and Aquaman solo titles would be cool to start off with, if they get good creative teams on board.

But it's debatable whether the "Explosion" had an correlation to the "Implosion". Wikipedia states that publishing difficulties in the north east due to two horrible winters had a fairly heavy hand in the issue.

But I agree that if the material is crap, none of this matters. I guess I simply interested because I'm personally hungry for more content from DC. I buy almost every DCU book currently, and I'd probably buy twice as many if they only published them.

I want a Frankenstein book where he's an agent of S.H.A.D.E. and goes around riding a motorcycle and shooting mystical creatures. He was my favorite character from Seven Soldiers.

Great Ten

Doctor 13 and his Forgotten Friends

DCU: International - Features heroes and villains outside of the USA like the Global Guardians, Beefbeater, Rocket Red Brigade, Vixen's League, etc.

7 Soldiers with Shining Knight I, Firebrand II, Connor Hawke, Cassandra Cain, Vigilante I, Manhunter, and Serling Roquette.

Sidelines - Stories from the POV of non-metas, featuring anybody from the supporting cast to civilians to POTUS.

Legionnaires of the Unknown - Features the second incarnation wandering the multiverse, helping the lost and forgotten.

Mr. Terrific/Dr. Mid-Nite

Flash Family - A book that features other Flash related characters who may not get much time in the main book.

Golden Age - This book will focus on that era and it's characters.

Our Armed Forces at War - A war/espionage comic that'd feature stuff like military ops during alien invasions, metahuman arms race, and organizations like Blackhawks, Checkmate, DEO, etc.

House of Mystery - Features supernatural stories and characters like the Spectre, Phantom Stranger, Ghost Detectives, Zauriel, etc.

Superman: Vertigo - By Garth Ennis.

I'd love to see an Aquaman book again, with Rags Morales on the art.

I still think there's a market for Hawkman and I'd love to see it star Katar.

Cyborg is waaaaay overdue. And I think Doctor Fate, Zatanna, Weird War Tales, I...Vampire, Adam Strange, Captain Atom and Swamp Thing can easily carry their own books.

Always wondered how Grant Morrison would work on a Swamp Thing book.

-Aquaman
-Hawkman
-Phantom Stranger
-Spectre
-Most importantly, new characters. And I don't mean same superhero identity, and a familiar character taking that role on (coughCrispusAllenReneeMontoyacough), but fully new characters.

Superman Returns was a great film. DO NOT REBOOT!

Well, more than half the books originally suggested won't happen till after BRIGHTEST DAY end in May 2011!

What would I like?

Atlantis Chronicles: starring Aquaman and Mera. I'd love to see all of Peter David's tribes under one dome in a rebuilt Atlantis. Co-starring Aquagirl, Deep Blue and Atlan (as Koryak, Tempest and Dolphin were killed).

Justice League of America: starring Supes, WW, Bats, Canary, GL, Atom, Aquaman, Mera, Zee, Firestorm (renaming James' crew "Justice League"). Geoff to write.

Justice League International: spinning the Gen Lost team out with a new Rocket Red, Guy, Dr Light and a few others.

Showcase: Rotating two leads, one arc ends, a new hero gets a story. The Ghost Detectives, The Hawks, Captain Atom, Firestorm and Atom all share this book. DC should not let any random writers on board, but established writers and a strong editor who knows continuity and can get the characters right.

SHAZAM!: Featuring the entire Marvel Family, minus the old Uncle and the Tiger.

Speed Force: Two leads - Wally and Bart. Wally's tales chronicle him and his family and - yes - the kids get a good role. Bart's tales feature Max. Naturally Jesse and Jay get appearances too.

DCnU? We'll see....

My ideas for DC to take the #1 spot: Every issue ships with 7 super rare variants:

JLA Babies #1 (mini series)
JLA Pre-school #1 (ongoing)
JLA Freshmen #1 (ongoing)
JLA Sophmore's #1 (ongoing)
JLA Junior's #1 (ongoing)
JLA Senior's #1 (ongoing)
JLA Graduation Days #1 (annually)
JLA Neighbors #1 (mini series) this would be about people who have lived next to JLA members and their stories.
JLA Girls Only Club #1 (ongoing) all girl members, start a new #1 issue every 6 months.
JLA All Girl Action #1 (ongoing) all girl members, start a new #1 issue every 6 months.
JLA Animals #1 (ongoing) this would be about JLA members as different animals.
JLA Puppies #1 (ongoing) this would be about JLA members as cute little puppies.

Deadshot #1 (ongoing)
Deadshot Best Shot's #1 (ongoing)
Deadshot Team-ups #1 (ongoing)
Deadshot Hot New Team-ups #1 (ongoing)
Deadshot Corps #1 (ongoing)
Deadshot Greatest Hits #1 (ongoing)
Deadshot Staring Down a Barrel #1 (one-shot)
Deadshot League #1(ongoing)
Young Deadshot #1 (ongoing) this would be about his early adventures.
Young Deadshot Hot Young Team-Ups #1 (ongoing) early team-ups.
Deadshot Kills the World #1 (one-shot)
Miss Deadshot #1 (one-shot) Ex-wife puts on Deadshot gear and is ready for action.

Batman Bat to Bat #1 (ongoing)
Batman Brave and the Babes #1 (ongoing) Batman team's-up with female hero's of the DCU
Batman Carwash #1 (ongoing) this would be about the guy who washes the Batmobile.

These could be just some of the mighty maneuver's DC could take to grab that #1.

I would unironically read this.

I think DC's biggest thing is to try and capitalize on characters while they're still hot.

It seems like Brightest Day and JLI: Generation Lost are the right thing to do. Take the resurrected characters and instantly put the spotlight on them.

That's the biggest problem in my eyes that DC has had in recent years. Seven Soldiers of Victory was awesome, but then the characters don't make any big appearances at all. Final Crisis had a lot of concepts that could have been followed up on better, like the Super Young Team or SHADE or a whole bunch of other stuff.

Yeah, this guy named Steve Sparks is hired by Alfred to wash the Batmobile because he's so bogged down with work.

Steve wash's the Batmobile every week while daydreaming of his girlfriend and child whom he misses so, when suddenly the Joker threatens Steve and wants his secret code to the Batcave!

Bendis could write it, he could probably stretch the first arc out through 24 issues.
