Default The Rich Rider Saga

So I finally bought the last Rich Rider Nova trade paperback, as well as The Thanos Imperative. And read the entire run of DnA's Nova series and its aftermath in a fairly short burst.

That was some good comics. I am not big on Marvel, but I like a good cosmic adventure and like superhero comics with actual heroes. And Rich is very much a hero, from start to finish. Enough of one that he even calls out Tony Stark (and Marvel?) about how silly the Civil War was. He fights the good fight, works well with others, and never gives up. And he is fun, even when things look dark.

It saddens me that Rich is off the board now, to make room for a new Nova. And that DnA are similarly displaced as Marvel moves to make its cosmic comics part of the Avengers line instead of standalones. More's the pity, because I really have no interest in Bendis' GotG, let alone a Nova comic that doesn't really connect in any way to the previous series.

But I will always have the 36 issues of Nova and the final moments of Rich Rider's illustrious career on my bookshelf, even if Marvel never brings him back. Or resolves that odd dangling teaser with Super-Nova from War of Kings.

I like how DnA's Nova echoed Fabian's take and a couple other writers. They told great stories and were respectful of what was previously written about the character. Not something you see often these days...

I was wondering if Infinity would mark the return of Double R.

Seems like a perfect opportunity to bring him back along with the Nova Corp

Are there any New Warriors collections out there? I leaped in with almost no idea who Rich was, beyond seeing him here and there when I was a kid. That I never felt lost is another thing DnA got right, but it would be interesting to see what came before.

Too soon. Rich will come back but it's gonna be a long while before that happens. Look how long it took for Colossus to come back. Or Nightcrawler.

I think you'll really enjoy New Warriors! It's like discovering Firestorm and wanting to read his nold JLA stories (though New Teen Titans would be more apt).

Amazon has Classic New Warriors trades pretty cheap.

Also, SPIDER-MAN & NEW WARRIORS: HERO KILLERS reprinted all the Spider-Man annuals and the NW one for this team-up (Nova and Spidey were buddies back in the day).

Then there the New Warriors Omnibus which reprints all the above stories a few more issues of the New Warriors series.

Also, it should be noted that Rich had his own series (volume 2, also writte by Fabian Nicieza) that ran along side the NW run and would sometimes cross over into it. It was in this run we were introduced to Supernova and other characters that would later appear in DnA's run. You can find a complete chronology at New Warriors Continuity Conundrum, it was very helpful when tracking down Justice's old appearences when he was Marvel Boy.

Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with!

Yep. Especially since Loeb's Hollywood connections have now made him the media darling of Disney when it comes to Marvel.

I'm an old school New Warriors fan and I've always liked Rich but I'm not letting that get in the way of enjoying the new series which is a fun book. I don't see why there isn't room for both of them though. Easily the new kid could be Kyle to Rich's Hal.

GotG #18 begins the story of Rich, Peter Quill, and Drax vs. Thanos in the Cancerverse! Good stuff, Bendis really picks right up where DnA left off
