Unhappy Who are your top five favorite writers currently?

Here's the catch: they must be actively on a book right now. Not someone who's in between assignments or hasn't been in comics for an extended period of time. Don't have to stick with Marvel and DC though. Can extend to other publishers as well.

I don't have that many.

Greg Rucka is a clear #1.

Brian Wood is my clear #2.

Gets a little more dicey after that.

Mark Waid is #3.

Brian Bendis is #4

Jason Aaron is #5 (Thor has been amazing)

If you weren't expecting this to be good, then you need to go and read a bunch of Greg Rucka comics. - MattDiCarlo

All time?

Moore. Gaiman. Morrison. Miller. And for old times sake, O'Neill. I could easily have chosen five Brits though (and the more Warren Ellis I read, the more impressed I am).

That does leave out Fox, Broome, Lee, Thomas, Englehart, Gerber, and god knows how many others. And Geoff Johns, who got me back into comics after many years away.

Based on comics I've been reading lately:
1. Snyder (Batman, The Wake)
2. Brian K. Vaughn (Saga)
3. Jeff Lemire (Animal Man, Green Arrow, Sweet Tooth)
4. Gregg Rucka (Lazarus)
5. Hopeless (Avengers Arena)

p.s. I'm sure I'll get some flak for the last one, but it's a comic I enjoy and I feel it's written well.

Honorable mentions:
Geoff Johns (Aquaman)
Asmus (Gambit, Quantum and Woody)
Fraction (Hawkeye, Fantastic Four)

I agree with the Hopeless. He does a great job and Avengers Arena is fun. Cable and X-Force is also a great read.
