Default Goodbye Red Circle, hello Dark Circle

http://www.usatoday.com/story/life/2...sive/12483965/

I dunno, they say they're doing this to be new and different, but it sadly sounds to me like they're just following the masses with regard to darkening superhero tales.

I'll give it a look - I like a lot of the characters in a variety of their incarnations. But a lot of the buzzwords thrown around give me a lot of pause (and, pardoxically, their solution to Red Circle being "rebooted a handful of times" is to reboot the line under a different name).

I hope the previous continuity is not discarded.

I think they're keeping THE FOX as is; they've pretty all but come out and said the Mighty Crusaders continuity is off the table.

Strange...the New Crusaders barely got started a couple years ago. Shield tied I though with the Fox seemingly in continuity.

I could be wrong; that was my take-a-way from the interview though.

Although its possible that he just meant the New Crusaders as a team wouldn't be seen in favor of solo books (which he did say more explicitly later on)

Never any Red Circle titles. I read the article on CBR not the link posted here.

I don't assume the update will necessarily darken the characters. I assume it will give characters more complexity and/or contradictions, like real people.

Curious what creators will be involved. Roberto did good work at Marvel and now Afterlife with Archie. Will check out his Sabrina. Interested in Dark Circle.

I'll be reading these. Through !mpact I tried the 80's Archie superhero books, then on to DC Red Circle, and most recently the Red Circle relaunch.

If they are going darker in tone, then I still hope they aim for a shared universe and not lost of unconnected books. I also hope they look at the VEI model of launches and see what they can replicate. VEI have managed to accrue a number of concurrent titles which ship on time. Archie I guess can capitalize on the production expertise, and if building around 5 issue series should be able to get books coming out on time.

I will give the books a try, and to be honest, a clean slate may be the best way to go. Some characters need some tweaks to make better sense in the modern era IMHO, and over the course of the original versions and the !mpact and DC-Red Circle reboots, I think the two reboots pitched some better versions of characters (Black Hood and Jaguar via !mpact; the Web, Hangman conceptually, and Shield's origin through DC-Red Circle).

Looks pretty cool actually.
I think I'll give some of these a shot.

I really like what they say about series that stand on their own. The less interconnected, the better, IMO.
Between this and Dynamite's line of Flash Gordon, Mandrake, etc. they're making it really hard to try to cut the number of monthlies I pick up.

My gut feeling is something left-field like Bob Phantom, Hangman or Red Rube, but 'deep cut' makes me wonder if they have a deal for the Fly?
