Default The New Direction of DC Comics....Your Thoughts

With so many threads out there on individual titles I figure here is a place you can voice your thoughts without bringing negativity to the entire DC forum.

So praise / complain...just be respectful of others opinions

I feel like my childhood has been violated... wait... no... that was just the taco I ate last night... nevermind on that.

As long as they keep telling good GL stories (as that's all I get now-a-days anyway), I could care less of they turn Hal evil again.

I find I am very excited for this.

So much potential, so much promise. This much change is very scary to a lot of people. And it is risky for DC in the extreme.

Right now it's the uncertainty of it all, we have no real idea where the stories will go, and we may lose characters we care about a lot. DC has put a lot of effort getting us emotionally invested in them. But best to remember they're never truly gone, no matter what, them coming back is always just an editorial decision away.

So lets see where this will all go.

Who knows you might just like the Post Flashpoint DCU?

We've seen nothing is permanent (though possibly lasting quite awhile) and things are correctable in the long run. That being said, I'm like Tad here: just tell me good stories.

I want action, adventure, sc-fi, villains, gods, some romance, conflict, cool visuals, thinking outside of the box, you name it. Maybe even some hypertime or weird team ups like Etrigan and Zauriel! I'm open to anything.

An excitable MackayBear is something this board needs.

Kinda hard to have more than general thoughts until we know more about the titles and all. I'll be interested to see the news that comes out though.

I agree it's going to be an interesting several weeks as the news trickles out and we find out more about what's coming up.

The few "concrete" details that have come out so far seem decent enough. Its all about the execution so chances are I'll continue to buy the books I'm already buying unless the creative teams give me reason not to. In fact, this might start me picking up books I haven't considered in the past.

I will say that a Johns / Lee JL books has the potential to be awesome...I just hope it doesn't suffer from All Star Batman and Robin disease.

Concerns:
- Good comics and storylines will be left by the wayside. I don't want to see Xombi cancelled so soon, nor do I want to restore the pre-Batman RIP status quo and lose Red Robin, the new Batgirl, or Dick in the cowl.
- Does DC have the talent for this many books? Judging by the roster of editors and other unknowns handling the bulk of the Flashpoint tie-ins, I have my doubts.
- "Change for change sake" is rarely successful. New costumes and altered origins are by themselves more likely to alienate old readers than to entice new ones.

Opportunities:
- Digital is the future. And while there is a long way to go before DC (or any other print comics company) creates truly digital comics (as opposed to just scans of paper comics), this is a big step away from the same old way of doing things.
- After books like JLA, Flash, Superman and Wonder Woman have foundered, a fresh start could really make a difference.
- At their worst, DC's other reboots have produced memorable comics. Zero Hour gave us Starman, Infinite Crisis led to 52, and the LSH reboots were quite entertaining at first. And the original reboot after CoIE led to what I think was DC's best era. We are bound to see some really good comics no matter what.

Overall, I am optimistic but cautious. DC is forever announcing projects that sound great till I actually read them. Their track record in the last decade is very mixed, and even with Johns and Lee at the helm, I don't expect everything to be great. But I think there will be enough good stuff that I won't be all that unhappy.

If what Lemire's reboot to Ray Palmer is any indication to what's yet to come for the DCU, then I won't really be into DC's new direction.
