There has been a lot of talk in the industry this week about the possible future of "Fantastic Four." Last week, CBR published a report saying the books may be taken off the table stemming from issues with 20th Century Fox, who hold the rights to FF films, following an initial report by Bleeding Cool. What can you can say on the record about the matter?

Alonso: The Fantastic Four -- Reed, Sue, Johnny and Ben -- are a vital part of the Marvel Universe, and we have no plans to change that. James Robinson has exciting plans for them in the immediate future -- starting with the "Original Sin" tie-in story -- and we are continually devising plans to use them in new and surprising ways in the vast landscape of the Marvel Universe, like we do with any Marvel character; in fact, we already know that one of [the FF] will be a huge player in a universe-spanning event down the road.

i really don't believe the rumors.

what i think might happen (and i'm pleased if it does) is that this won't be a case of the comics reflecting the movies.

So, here's #1:
I am going to publish it, and it will have four characters in it. I’ll presume James Robinson will write that all the way into the future. At least until time runs out and then anything can happen.

That's a quote from Tom Brevoort at the NYC Special Edition show 'Next Big Thing' panel.

and here's Rich laying out the four possibilities of what that actually means (even though you can probably guess what they are):

Even Marvel knows that comics coming out at the time of the movie don't influence ticket sales. It's good trailers, good word of mouth and good publicity.

I'll again pull out the old math chestnut.

Let's say the FF sells 75,000 books a month (I'm being generous, I know).

Let's then multiply that number by 4 (because you know...it's the Fantastic Four) to include those readers who've left the book with fond memories and add that to the 75,000.

375,000.

Let's say each of those people see the movie 4 (again it's the Fantastic Four) times.

1,500,000 viewings

and let's say (keeping with a trend) that bring 4 friends with them who are not in the previous numbers (i.e. not comics fans).

7,500,000 (1,500,000 for the viewer and each of his four friends)

Now let's say it's IMAX 3D in some of the theaters we'll average the price to....15.00 per show.

112,500,000.00

And remember, this is with me being VERY generous.

The comics will not put butts in seats to a degree that warrants these kinds of moves. However, the rumor mongering can impact sales either way.

Maybe it's coded messages to us comic fans to not support this film version because Marvel really wants it back.

Comics Alliance March 25, 2011:
Welcome to the Future Foundation: ‘FF’ #1 Annotation
FF #1 came out this week, a reboot and continuation of the longstanding Marvel franchise by Jonathan Hickman, Steve Epting, Rick Magyar and Paul Mounts.

One month after the death of Johnny Storm, the Human Torch, the surviving members of the Fantastic Four — Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic), Sue Storm (The Invisible Woman) and Ben Grimm (The Thing) — kick into high gear as the Future Foundation with new uniforms, a new mandate and new members

Comics Alliance August 9, 2012:
Fraction Forms ‘FF’ And ‘Fantastic Four’ Futures With Allred and Bagley
Fraction will be joined by Ultimate Spider-Man co-creator Mark Bagley on Fantastic Four, as the two send the Richards family (along with Uncle Johnny and Uncle Ben, of course) on a road trip across time and space

During the road trip, which is planned to last a year, their place in the Marvel Universe will be taken by a hand-picked replacement team, who’ll be taking over the FF book with art by Mike Allred. That team will include Ant-Man, Medusa, She-Hulk and a brand new character called “Miss Thing,”

The Fantastic Four At Marvel In 2015 – But How?
Could possibly Fantastic Four comic will still exist but with a different cast. A very different cast. And very different to the movie – a creative solution to Perlmutter’s demand.

I recently stopped reading the FF book on Marvel Unlimited. It just didn't hold my interest.

The Fantastic Four book is pretty good though. I HATE the white uniforms though. HATE!
