sounds like continuity pr0n to me.

"does that one story that i read a long time ago count now that the universe has been rebooted or not? i must know."

unfortunately once DC divorced certain characters from the endearing, impacting stories of their past and asked me to care about some characters in the abstract (or in some instances the names of some characters), i found i didn't really have a slavish devotion to characters as much as i did creators or even some of those works of the past.

...and for that reason, i'm out.*

This is why they should have done a full reboot. No picking and choosing..
Start from the ground floor and go from there.

I did not read Grant Morrison's Action Comics run but I thought he implied that it did happen (Superman's death that is).

this is from an interview by Comicvine dated Feb. 6, 2013...

CV: Will we get answers about the mention of Superman's first death, Doomsday or the statue with Superman's pre-New 52 costume?

GM: All those things, I wanted to show that they had happened. I didn't think it was actually important to show the actual event. I think it's important for Superman's origin to show that he once died. If some other writer down the line wants to tell the story, it's theirs to tell. This story is more about suggesting what went wrong and moving forward it's showing a situation where he's facing something even worse than Doomsday.

Again, just an excuse to regurgitate something that was once popular instead of carrying the story forward.

I couldn't understand what this article was even talking about. Maybe it's because I just don't have any interest in Superman right now.

I'm just gonna say, if he hasn't fought Doomsday yet and they're really going with a "prophecy", then the comics have gotten really, really lazy.

Maybe Superman will have to kill Doomsday and everyone will be afraid of him.
