Default Pitch your John Stewart series

Alright everybody, lets hear your pitch for how you'd do a John Stewart series. It can be an ongoing, a mini, a maxi, hell, you can even do it on the JLU version (in the JLU Universe).

The only rule is that you gotta maintain the status quo (In other words, Hal can't be removed as the GL or Co-GL of Sector 2814, Guy is the GLC Enforcer, Kyle is the troubleshooter, Salakk is the Internal Affairs, and Kilowog is head trainer or whatever their current roles are). Basically, it just has to fit in with the current direction. Otherwise you can do whatever you want.

In my pitch, he'd still be co-GL of 2814. I'd have John take up residence in Arizona where he can slowly patch things up with Merayn. He would run his architectural business from there and more of his supporting cast would be drawn from his partners/employees. Not only would the rebuilding of Coast City be one of its major contracts, I'd also have the business as the leader in metahuman battle sturdy architecture. In order to maintain this status, John partners with Geoffrey Baron aka Technocrat, the former Outsider. As a tech buck, Geoff can keep the company ahead of the curve with the latest cutting edge stuff. And you can't have Technocrat without Wylde, so he'd be along for the trip as well. Man, I really wish I could remember the name of John's company... Shining Light?

If Will Payton ever comes back to Earth and takes up his old residence in Arizona, then he can stop by occassionally as well. Sorry, he's the only other hero I know from Arizona. If there are any villains, you can expect them to show up too (naturally, somebody'd have to do some research).

For main adversaries, John would have to deal with Fatality, Grayven and Star Sapphire. Also, since the spirits of the Guardians never died, when Kyle resurrected the Guardians in GL #150, he also revived Old Timer, who would come back to haunt John. This would also put John back in contact with the Mosaic Worlds. And don't be surprised to see John show up to thwart Darkseid's latest attempts at obtaining the Anti-Life Equation, leading to team ups with Raker, John's inside man on Darkseid's operations seeking the ALE.

I can't remember what union(s) the former Goldface represents in Keystone City, but if any of them have anything to do with architecture, I'd have old Goldy give John's company a hard time getting a foothold in Keystone, just for old times sake.

Merayn's job with the DEO would not only provide missions for John, but also tension with his relationship with Merayn (since most heroes don't trust the DEO).
John would also be in regular contact with his partner, Hal Jordan regarding missions and whatnot. Also from Oa to receive missions and answering distress calls throughout the sector. Expect some JLA buddies to stop by as well.

I think that about covers it. Thoughts? Your own pitches?

I would do something like a mini "Year One" but it would be called "In The Begining: 2nd To None." He would be an architect/engineer who went through the Marines to pay for his education. While he was in the USMC he would meet Hal, USAF, for the first time which would be prior of him becoming a GL in some kind of military event I have yet to explain. They become good friends. Hal looking for more introspection with struggles with the Guardians and befriending Ollie gives his ring to JS because he feels that John has GL qualities while the Guardians had chosen Guy Gardner which Hal opposed. Kilowog agrees with Hal's choice while Salaak, conservatist traditionalist GL, disagrees.
This mini would show John's struggling years and overcoming personal fears and hates.

Sorry, saving mine for a pitch to DC.

But I'd retcon away the whole Marines thing. Doesn't fit his character.

Is the Marines thing a part of his DCU character? Or is that just the cartoon? I don't recall him being a military man. Although I could be wrong. I don't have that many John appearances between GL/GA and GL Vol 3.

The USMC part is a JLU thing. I would only have in the USMC just so he can get funds for college. He would only have a short time in the USMC. Maybe 2 years.

Oh no. You're cool. I was more responding to gothamite's comments about wanting to retcon it out. I didn't think it was a part of his character to retcon out. That's all. Your idea's all good.

John Stewart starts an ABBA cover band and tours the universe to put on concerts and solve crimes. The Shark is on drums.

I was told that it was added in JLA (not picking up the issues, waiting for the trades) to bring him in line with the JLU version. I'd love for that not to be true - it doesn't fit the comic character.

Gotcha. That would explain why I didn't know about it. I've only picked up JLA sporadically since Joe Kelly was on it. I agree that it doesn't work with the comic character. Retcon it all you want!!

He uses this fame to grind dance with skanks across the country, because Winick has clearly shown that John loves to dry hump.

Think for yourself and question authority.

My name is Peter Werle. Please print it in a comic.

I think Eaglesham's more to blame for that. Can't imagine Judd putting that in the script... Although it would help John keep his balance since he was still getting used to his legs.

I'd like to explore John's interaction with the League more, he's under-exposed IMO (he was cool against the Burning though!)b . My pitch isn't worked out yet but it would certainly involve (in a solo title capacity, with the League as guest stars) defining what John brings to the League which Kyle doesn't.

I'd also like to explore John's roots more, his family is an area of untapped potential IMHO.

Just a few things that need exploring, as I think of more I'll edit this post!

Cheers.

James.
