Default Weird Western Tales #71 Discussion Thread (with Preview)

In a month of resurrected books, DC's heroes of the old west come back from the dead as Black Lanterns on Jan 5th in Weird Western Tales #71

PDF preview up at DC Comics.com

Here: http://www.dccomics.com/media/excerpts/13783_x.pdf

Wow!

The preview looks good, setting up a nice Rio Bravo vibe and there are some unexpected faces amongst those on the side of good!

I am looking forward to Black Lantern Hex!

Okay, the title of this issue is just plain funny.

Really looking forward to this one, but I won't get it until next week.

The Black Lanterns certainly went to a lot of trouble to get Dove's ring back. With only two issues of the main series left, I doubt it will be important; they probably just did it out of principle.

I'll bet my life's savings that The Ray has all the BL's put down by the end of the issue.

I wasn't really planning on picking this one up, but I flipped through it at the shop & saw Ray. Sold.

All in all, it turned out to be a better read than I thought from the solicit. I'm not entirely sure it was necessary, but it was good to see young Mr. Terrill come out of limbo briefly at least.

Dan DiDio wrote this and you all enjoyed? Hmmm....

and the Ray is back to the old uniform? yuck. Liked the newer one as seen in Freedom Fighter mini-series.

Loved when Hex and Bat Lash made cameos! Not to be "that guy," but I've enjoyed Didio's stuff thus far.

It's the new one, but I like the way the body suit is drawn here.

This was a far better read than I expected and a had a real touch of Cameron's Aliens at time which was cool.

Needless to say, without a body I assume...

SPOILER. Highlight below text to read
...The Ray survived! I hope so, it was cool to see him.

The appearances of some of the Black Lantern Western characters were brief at times but I was happy with BL Jonah Hex and the BL Batlash was very good.

The story was a bit inconsequential within the Blackest Night event but it was still and enjoyable read.

Just finished reading it, and really really enjoyed it! Glad to see Ray Terrill finally put to some good use in Blackest Night (at least a tie-in!). He's the light-wielder in the DCU (IMHO), so it only makes sense. And just the Ray Terrill fan in me in general loved seeing his kick-butt appearance here!

I was really impressed by Didio's writing here, seeing as I thought it was just average in his Metal Man story in Wednesday Comics. This gives me hope for his upcoming Outsiders work.

It seems that Hex no longer knows how to shoot after being dead...

Oh well, this was a pretty good read. Not sure why the Black Lanterns wanted the ring so badly, though, this is the first issue in all the BN issues I've read where they tried to get a ring back and there have been many cases of black rings falling.

I enjoyed it.

Not a bad outing for didio.

Sure, some of the dialogue was wonky but that can improve over time. All in all a very good one shot.

Yeah, that part was a little weird. I thought Turnbull was going to yank out his descendant's heart at the end and feed on his hope, but instead he just shoots him.

I enjoyed this quite a bit. I didn't get to finish Wednesday Comics, but I enjoyed Didio's take on the Metal Men. I'm definitely gonna try out Outsiders when #26 hits the stands.
