Dear lord, that is painful to read. Nocenti can't write for her life anymore.

I'm interested to see what people think of this one.

And who these Outsiders are.

After stopping with #9, I recently picked up Green Arrow #10 - 16 when I heard that Jeff Lemire was taking over starting with #17 (thank you, collector mentality!). Reading them was like swimming in a 50m pool filled with vomit. There is no way I'd ever read a series written by Nocenti ever again. "Katana" is destined for cancellation.

I really want to like this... but the dialog of ALL the characters just really turns me off.

Might give it another issue just because I really want to like it...

One and done. That was some of the worst writing I've read in a while. It was a chore just to get past the first page. Not a fan of the art either.

DC better have a new title ready to go, as this one won't last too long.

The reviewer was clearly a long time fan of Katana, as well as of some of the themes of the series, so I think he may have been looking at it through "rose-colored glasses".

It's a shame the book sounds so poorly done.

Back in the day, I would have loved a Katana ongoing with Halo in tow as her surrogate daughter. That relationship was a big part of what humanized Tatsu and made her a very likeable character, IMO.

Now she seems to have reset to an approximation of the personality she had in the first issues of the original BATO, only with a "hip" () "fresh" () and "modern" () "edge"...

I liked Katana in the new 52 BOP issues. Don't really see the take and "hip" "fresh" "modern" instead of taking the character back to their origins.

Haven't read this yet, but will.

She was a blank slate in the first 5 issues of BoP, but then again, so were all the other characters, IMO. I guess it took 6 or more issues to inject any personality beyond "Japanese samurai-chick who talks to her sword".

Mike W. Barr made her far more interesting to me, in far less time.

I really do hope the new book turns out to be good. The sentiment here so far is that it isn't but who knows. Noncenti can't have just forgotten how to write.
