Default cross printing in trades

Anyone else annoyed by this? I don't appreciate for instance how much of City of Owls and Night of the Owls are printed in both. Feel like I paid for the same stuff twice.

That would bug me, as well. Kind of a ripoff for trade-buyers.

Are COO and NOO supposed to be different parts of the story? Or the same story centered around different characters? Or...?

I've had it booth ways.

Yes, it is annoying when the same issue is printed in two trades that you were both going to buy anyway.

But it's also annoying when you have to buy an entire six-issue trade of a series you don't normally buy because one issue crossed over with a series you do normally buy.

So they have the choice of either making you buy one issue you already have, or five issues you don't want. Making you buy the one issue you already have is more cost effective for you in the long run.

Looks like if you get Night you don't really need City.

Yeah, I found it pretty annoying. They released Night first so I read that first. It has the whole event minus the climax, so you get some aftermath stuff without knowing how things were resolved. City, which came out later, has the core story but only adds 3 issues. It would have been much better to add those three issues into Night, or just kept the Batman issues in their own book and released that first.
