See, I think once you get past the actual presence of GH and Kato (which IS very cool!) its a tepid episode. Weak villain and pedestrian plot, IMO. It doesnt stand up to, say, the first season shows.

Yeah, I guess they needed King Tut

or Bookworm

or the Archer

or Louie the Lilac

or Egghead

or False Face

or Marsha, Queen of Diamonds

Sorry, Jim, but this show practically defines the term "doesn't hold up"...

Um.....I'm not sure Jim was looking for criticism of the show? Obviously, he's fond of it. Maybe we could move on from here???

I LOVED the first season. Especially the first episodes of The Riddler, The Penquin, Joker, Catwoman, Mr. Freeze, and The Mad Hatter.

In those episodes the "camp" wasn't fully settled in and the villiains were serious threats. And the "Bat-fights" were some of the series best (especially in the Joker conclusion episode "Batman is Riled".

And no question that show proved beyond much doubt that Batman and Robin are comicdom (and TV's) greatest team.

WC, you I like

You're right; the first season is the best and a good balance of all the elements of the show. Later, it teetered off-balance with too much yucks, IMO.

Has anyone ever seen Adam West and Burt Ward's auditions? You can find them on YouTube. They were treated much more seriously than the show treated the characters and Adam's costume didn't have the yellow oval on the bat symbol either.

And let's call it what it is: the BATMAN tv show put the Bat-universe on the map.

And I can watch the launching of the Batboat a year and a day.

Incredibly cool.

This is something that a lot of people tend to forget. Sure, Batman was a solid seller before the Adam West show. But it was the show that made Batman and Robin such pop culture icons. Even if you don't care for the show unto itself, it's highly unlikely that we would have had the subsequent live action adaptations without it, and even possible the character wouldn't take on the pop culture immortality that it ultimately has.
