Default Batman Inc. issue #1 Preview & Discussion

CBR PREVIEW.

For Bruce Wayne, business is officially open.

Launching tomorrow in comic stores from DC Comics comes "Batman, Inc." #1 by Grant Morrison and Yanick Paquette. The ongoing monthly series will dig deeper into the shocking recent revelation inside the DC Universe where Bruce Wayne publicly revealed that he has funded the Dark Knight's operations for years. To celebrate the release of this new director for the caped crusader, CBR is proud to present an exclusive preview from the first issue below.

Morrison spoke with CBR News last month about the upcoming series, saying, "I love the whole idea of the International Batmen from the Club of Heroes kind of thing, and it's always fun in a story to switch locations and play with a different backdrop – Batman in a new setting. Just to see Batman in the streets of Japan surrounded by all this neon and flashing lights is really cool."

Very nice splash page of downtown Tokyo. And with apologies to the Bat-purists out there, I like having the oval back.

It's not just the oval I like, it that there is a hint of the costume from the Burton films.

I'm not really enjoying the armored look to the current Batman costume, but it's sweet to have Bruce and Selina working together, fighting crime, flirting, all that fun stuff that we haven't seen in a long time...since Hush? Bring on Morrison's next chapter!

Good but a letdown after all that B&R goodness. Gonna take a lot of getting used to Bruce outside Gotham on a regular basis. And Grant's Japanese weirdness is a struggle to read sometimes.

Good art, though, and interesting interplay between Bruce and Selina, though it was better in Streets of Gotham.

Oh, Selina's already in this? I might have to really pay attention to this now. B&S OTP for me all the way (even as a sometime Talia fan, B&S has been one of my favorite ships since I was a little kid!)

Is it me or has Bruce been a bit snarkier since he got back?

Is Batman actually cracking wise?!

That's not really a bad thing so long as the focus remains on him as a crimefighter first and formost (although this globe-hopping, and Grant's writing, could make superhuman threats work well too). This also probably represents a (natural) progression for Bruce now that he has a new lease (literally) on life and realizes how big and competent his support network is and how he doesn't have to shoulder all the burden on himself anymore.

Yeah, I'm not saying it's a bad thing. I like it a lot.

I think the idea is great, I just wonder if it will be a plot-point to re-boot a dozen books under a new banner and halfway through 2011 we get "Bruce Wayne:Homecoming" and he returns to Gotham?

I read it and just couldn't get into it. I'm also happy Dick and Damien will remain on as Gotham's dynamic duo. Batman & Robin is the only bat-book I'm sticking with after this change in direction but I do hope others enjoy it.

Really enjoyed this book, I haven't liked a DC book this much in what feels like years.

I wonder if Putin will be officially welcomed into the ranks of Batman, Inc. now that Wikileaks have revealed that officials at the Moscow embassy have revealed that he is Batman... Or is he just A Batman?

Already looking forward to the Putin Batman figure from DC Direct.

Beyond late to the party with this. A lot of fun and much lighter than early MozzBat books. It definitely felt like a new era was beginning.

lol @ the tentacle porn jokes.

And to add to this, I think more cartoony artists should be used for this series. Paquette, Burnham (who's doing issue 4), Stewart...those artists seem more appropriate for this series.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Quitely and Irving's art to death, but I'm not sure this book should have art like that. Same with J.H. Williams II. I think cartoony and eclectic is the perfect fit for this book.

Of course, if Quitely and Irving are lined up, I'll never turn them down.

I've been a little leary of this direction, but have been pleasently surprised by what I've been reading from all the Bat books. I hope they can keep it going.
