Does it matter?
He is taking on the responsibilities, and legacy, of Superman.

Most super heroes do the same exact thing essentially. If we are talking about names then yes it does matter.

So if Mon was referred to as Superman in his title that would in fact make him Superman in name...not in personality and history mind you. Just in name.

I was kinda suprised seeing Blackest Night Batman in #5. Mostly because I didn't think we were going to see a Black Lantern Batman because he was alive in the past. I thought it was Darkseid or the cop that Darkseid took over.

When you ask, "what was my reaction to Bruce" in the sense of what it means... I honestly don't know. There was no farewell issue for Bruce [in fact, there were more panels of Bruce still being alive after Darkseid shooting Batman than of people reacting to Bruce being dead in Final Crisis], so anytime we see anyone react to Bruce, it's like salt on the wound you don't even knows exists.

I mean yes there was Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader, but that could have come out at any time. It was literally a writer saying goodbye to Batman rather than us seeing the feel of Batman's loss. How does Superman feel about Bruce being dead? I have no idea. In Batman, Dick is feeling sorry for himself, so we know how he feels ad nausium. but the rest of the world... we don't know. Dick's been Batman for 8 months, and 1. he hasn't done anything and 2. No one really believes it... we know no one believes it because the writers remind us within the pages of the book itself that no one believes it.

That, plust winding Gyre, the cartoon series and the invisible man issues are there to remind me of Bruce so to me, it wasn't that impactful. I'm just glad he was pulled quickly like a pokemon so the impactful sight of the living/dead black lanterns was in some way impactful... and I'm hopeful they'll bring back Ted Kord and Tempest somehow through this story.

Me too. I'm trying to back you up, but sound logic seems to go over certain posters, like the lamp post who thinks I think Batman is real. LOL!

I'm getting the impression you two are trying to get under each others' skins. If my impression is correct, please stop. Thanks.

Batman isn't just any random person. Batman IS Bruce Wayne. Their identities are entwined in such a way that one cannot exist without the other.

The books you're reading don't star Batman; they star Nightwing dressed as Batman.

Just wanted to say that I dig Bruce as Batman the most but will agree that we are currently getting some of the best Batman comics in years.

It's always been interesting at the onset with the replacement hero. Thor, Iron Man, Green Lantern, Flash, Green Arrow, Wonder Woman...all have had a newbie in the role at some point or another.

In the long run though, nothing beats the classics.

See I agree, for the most part. Mostly-most part. But, I never would have imagined I'd love Wally as the Flash as much as I did after growing up with Barry - but there ya go. With Barry and Wally here and now I look at it as the best of two worlds. If you'll pardon the pun.

I couldn't get into Dick's first go-round as Batman but man, I love B&R. When Bruce comes back I'll be thrilled and I'll also have this wonderful Grayson-era to look back on - and most likely Dick in a role like Wally's today.

I win!

Jim!

I'll be interesting to see how being Batman changes Dick. When he was Nightwing he very much made Dick Grayson his own person, being both a policeman and museum curator for various reasons. Now he's using Dick Grayson, ward of Bruce Wayne, specifically as an aid to his being Batman. Much like his mentor. So when Bruce returns does he go back to being Nightwing? Does he go back to being Robin? Who will Dick Grayson be at this point? The responsible former policeman and museum curator or the, as he was recently described, Paris Hilton of Gotham City?

I have to admit I find that last title very interesting and a great cover. Not even Bruce was that bad.

Thank you for staying on topic. It's refreshing to see after trying to read through everything else on this thread.

I thought it was interesting that he wasn't a permanent BL. Maybe because of whatever is really going on with Bruce Wayne, Nekron is actually unable to keep him as a Black Lantern.

And thank you for staying on topic as well.

Boy, when I started this thread I had ZERO intention of starting what I just read through. I was just stating it was good to see some kind of emotional (however brief it may have been) reactions to seeing Bruce rise.
