Default Just fell in Love with some Denny o'neill Batman work!

After being so impressed with the venom/Batman storyline i had to track down other denny o'neill batman stories and with all the batman buzz these last few weeks i have been actively tracking down great batman arc's both single issues and old trade paperbacks.

I am looking for NON SPOILER opinions and thoughts on This Batman:Shaman comic i got today. Thanks and Regards

I am looking for any more recommendations possible, any and all of o'neill's batman work, arcs, one shots, annuals, trade paper backs, hardcovers.

tell me all.

I can't remember much about that Shaman storyline but I do recall another arc he did on LOTDK called Venom that I liked and featured art by Trevor Von Eedon.

Other recommened Dennis O'Neill Batman work include:

The Tales of the Demon TPB that features the early appearances of Ra's Al Ghul and are very good.

The Batman in the 70s TPB has some Dennis O'Neill/Neal Adams Batman stories.

O'Neill/Adams also worked on some Brave & the Bold issues in the 70s that are collected in the Showcase Presents Brave & the Bold collections.

Looking for more modern stuff? Theres the Sword of Azrael TPB collecting the mini that introduced Azrael and features art by Joe Quesada.

I recall not being too enthused about that when it came out. I was more eagerly awaiting Morrison's GOTHIC, which was the second LOTDK arc.

Yeah, most everything from the 70s Denny did on Batman is a must read.

Tales of the Demon is a very good trade.

I'm not all that sure about other trades, but the Batman Illustrated-Neil Adams books are worth it if you don't mind plunking down $50 per book. Batman in the 70's has a bunch as well, as do both the '88 version and the recent version of "The Greatest Batman Stories Ever Told"

As for single issues, I really like "Half an Evil", "The Joker's Five Way Revenge", "The Man Who Falls", "Wanted: Santa Claus-Dead or Alive" (art by Frank Miller), and "Death Strikes at Midnight and Three"

It was a holiday special. It's collected in the recent version of The Greatest Batman Stories Ever Told. It's really good. It's about a mobster who disguises himself as a mall Santa to help his gang score one last heist, but he doesn't want to do it because the spirit of season has him, and he wants to go straight anyways after this last stint in the slammer, so it's up to Batman to help him. The writing is top notch as always, and Miller's art is probably the most polished it ever was prior to Sin City coming out. I'll try to give you the number though when I get home and can get to the trade.

O'Neil wrote, IMHO, the best Batman (along with Englehart). I've managed to get my hands on The Joker's Five Way Revenge and I've read a lot of his Ra's al Ghul stuff and he just really got Batman. Dark, driven, but still human.

Superman Returns was a great film. DO NOT REBOOT!

It's the Super Star Holiday Special (DC Special Series #26), from spring 1980.

Loved "Venom", I liked "Shaman" too.Along with everything else listed, I'd recommend the 1st LOTDK annual, "Duel" (with art by several great artists) and Brave and the Bold #93, "Batman and The House Of Mystery" , art by Neal Adams.
The LOTDK annual should not be too hard to find. The B&B story was reprinted in issue #5 of "The Best of the Brave and the Bold", and also, I believe in one of those three Neal Adams collections.

I liked that LotDK Annual, too. It has art by a nice cast including Aparo, Giffen, Quesada and Michael Golden.

Not really a fan of the O'Neil/ Miller x-mas story - just found it kind of pedestrian. Denny was one of Frank's editors at Marvel, though, so they worked together quite a bit.

IMO the best Denny stuff is the Ra's Al ghul stuff, mostly with Adams but also with Don Newton on Detective. Sword of Azrael is enjoyable, and both Venom and Shaman are good reads. Shaman is kind of a Year One and a Half story - nice art by Ed Hannigan.

Denny's Question surpasses all his Batman work IMO though.
