Default Batman: Cacaphony

In the midst of Batman RIP, talk of Battle for the Cowl, Final Crisis and the rest I had almost forgotten that this mini was coming out!

Just a week to go and i'm looking forward to it. Are you?

Kevin Smith writing (I enjoyed his Daredevil and Green Arrow storys) and Walt Flanagan on art (who i'm less sure about having only seen a few samplings of his art).

DC now has the Andy Kubert cover up for issue #1 due Nov 12th:

yeah can't wait.

I read in wizard last week that smith doesn't know if this takes place before or after RIP.

he says it's whatever the fan wants. ie. before RIP or after.

take your pick.

yes this should be awesome, I am not familier with the artist but i'll google his work.

I quite liked his Spider-Man, but couldn't stand his Green Arrow, I'll approach this one with caution.

Flanagan is one of Smith's buddies, mentioned in most of his flicks and runs his comic store. No clue how good of an artist he is. If you find anything interesting on his work in your hunt mind if we piggy back on your work and post some of it here?

Lastly, that is one BA cover.

Did anybody else notice that DC's website has this listed for $3.99? It says issue 1 & 3 are 32 pages and issue 2 is 40, yet all 3 have a price of $3.99. I hope there is a typo in there.

Anyway I am looking forward to this.

Just read it. Great read -- Smith knows his DCU. A little Kevin Smith for some, sure, but I enjoyed it. Not safe for kids.

Pretty good. The art wasn't my cup of tea but the Joker had some really good moments. Seeing Batman's interior monologue about an evil bris was something I never knew I didn't want to see but now know I didn't want to see. The idea of a knife near any man's junk terrifies me but what Zsasz was about to do...yikes!

Mixed feelings about this being both a Smith and Batman fan.

Some of this was really good like Smith's Batman, the scenes with Zsasz, Deadshot and the appearances of Onomatopoeia (which were all too brief really).

However i'm certainly unsure of what to make of Smith's Joker. Some scenes and dialogue are fine but it was also really weird reading Joker saying "Natch" or "Brown Baggin" and of course some of the sexual references he makes seem way out of character even for the Joker.

Still, there was plenty to like and Flanagan's art was pretty good (though nothing special really). I am looking forward to the next issue.

I've always thought the Joker should be a more sexual character. Not that I want to see him having sex in any way, shape, or form, but it strikes me that sex would be a natural thing the character would gravitate to to keep those around him off-balance. If this guy gets a squeel out of blowing someone's brains out and then making a wig out of the leftovers, surely he wouldn't be above sticking out his booty in order to make someone cringe.

I thought that this book was amazing and I am even making some of my non-comic book reading friends read this (they've all seen TDK, of course).

Newsarama journalists ask these questions to Joe Q and Dan Buckley: Why place a $3.99 price tag for only 22 page of materiel?
