Is Swashbuckler a reference to something in the past of the DCU ? I had the impression that you had a consistent subtext of Swashbuckler having a past as an experienced but obscure super-villain from the Silver Age, or maybe a top agent of a Silver Age criminal conspiracy. Is that indeed what you meant to evoke, or am I just making things up ?

Swashbuckler is a pre-existing character, but not a Silver Age one. There are clues in the story that indicate who he is, though...
