Green Arrow tv show

I wonder what direction they'll take it.

jafabian January 13th, 2012 02:03 AM

Will they even bother with any auditions for the lead???

thunderdude January 13th, 2012 02:14 AM

Agreed. I'm actually shocked they didn't just spin Hartley out oof Smallville.

.....but not in costume. And if he's IN costume, he'll be either far, far away or so close you see nothing.

Heck, I'll save you and the show people some money, I'll give you a $ to rent Superman Returns. As you're watching Green Arrow, just skip to the dvd then back to the show, repeat when necessary.

From CBR: The CW Orders Green Arrow Pilot

he project [...] has been described as a modern retelling that sets the character "in a new world with an original story that is not based on the comics."
In other words, in an attempt to get a wider audience, its going to "modernize" the Green Arrow concept to the point where even comic fans won't like it. Maybe it will work. It worked for Smallville somehow.

Quote:

character was introduced on The CW's "Smallville" in 2006, with actor Justin Hartley appearing as a series regular from 2008 until its end in 2011. [...] Hartley isn't attached to the new project.
Hmm... they could have done worse than get Hartley back. We'll see who they get, no doubt he'll be compared to Justin.

chrisbenes January 19th, 2012 08:52 PM

I'd watch this....I'd be happy seeing them do Ollie in Star City as opposed to Metropolis.

jafabian January 31st, 2012 09:21 PM

Was hoping it would be Hartley but doesn't surprise me the studio went with someone else.

thunderdude February 1st, 2012 02:55 PM

I wonder if they even offered it to Hartley. Of course I could make the obvious joke about letting him guest star as Aquaman;)

Maybe the decision is to set clear distance between this series and Smallville?

That would be my thinking; that they want to do a production without being saddled with another productions continuity.

jafabian February 2nd, 2012 12:49 PM

IMO, using Hartley in the role doesn't obligate them to use Smallville continuity. Heck, Smallville barely followed it's own established continuity. Water under the bridge at this point though.

superfriend February 2nd, 2012 03:28 PM

i find it counter-intuitive that DC-Warners want to distance themselves from one of the few things that's worked for them in greater media. Smallville ran for 10 seasons. kinda good by most standards. it'd be like wanting to get distance on the Batman movies.

but then DC does seem to be the Bizarro-Marvel when it comes to this stuff. Marvel makes it look so easy and pretty much makes movies that are better than comics, painfully evidenced when comics conform with the movies and don't do it as well when competing that way.

but this GA project.... from the writers of the GL movie--um. and with Andrew Kriesberg--who's GA run in the comics was not what you might call well-received.

Superman Returns, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Green Arrow?

Devlyn16 February 2nd, 2012 05:40 PM

I suspect IF they used the same actor from Smallville in the same role, even with a whole new continuity , then WB would OWE someone from Smallville some $$$.

New Actor means no way for a legal claim.

That's a pretty cool photo. That could work. The hardest thing with superhero tv/film is getting a outfit that translates into the real world. That one does. Still not convinced by Captain America's helmet in the new film. They pretty much avoided it in the first one but this one looks wrong.

Costume looks good, but definitely not a fan of the name shortening.

You want realistic? Just show people around the world dubbing this "mysterious archer" dude "The Green Arrow" all over the internet and on television through some eye witness reports.

Most comic book heroes don't name themselves. It's usually established that someone in the general public comes up with something to call these mysterious characters by that eventually catches on with everyone else.

Exactly! Think about the phrase "Dont' taze me bro" and then apply that to a meld of a criminal calling him "that Big GREEN ARROW Guy" with massive you tube/facebook hits.

Super Hero code names made easy thanks to the prevelance of Intenet memes!

(GREEN) "ARROW" Gets Picked Up By The CW

GREEN ARROW Gets Series Order on CW

Some names have been changed but the premise remains the same, unless in the Nu52 Oliver's mother was responsible for his "violent shipwreck".

I suppose this means they won't be cancelling the comic for a while yet.

Green Guardsman May 11th, 2012 06:58 PM

Laurel Lance? That sounds like one of Superman's girlfriends.

Werehunter May 11th, 2012 07:43 PM

As I said on another forum, I'll give it a shot. But considering the shows the CW has picked up lately, not counting Nikita, my expectations are low.

RoseWilson May 11th, 2012 11:34 PM

I'm excited. Nikita is fantastic and I'm pleasantly surprised that it got picked up. CW has a bad rep but whether most people think their aimed at teenage girls or what not they actually tend to have more genre shows and variety than the major networks IMO who mostly just want to ram procedural cop shows down everyone's throat.

Simon DelMonte May 13th, 2012 08:11 PM

Happy that something live action not involving the Bat or the Red S is coming. I don't get why Warners has ceded the theaters to Marvel. Maybe we can get excited about TV.

But I can't say I expect this to be very good, given that the creative talents involved didn't do so well as comic book writers.

Still, as a diehard DC fan, I will be there. And Katie Cassidy was pretty good on SPN.
