retirement year one...

ronaldj's picture

Retirement, year one, 365 days ago today my company said, “be seeing ya” have a nice life. As you may know I worked construction and the economy has gone south, not wanting to do so, go south that is. I looked into and took my retirement package, which was a fixed income, now I see why they call it a fixed income; it is in bad need of fixen’. Now a whole year has come and gone and did it sail by, not as one would think, everyone says time fly’s when you get older, the secret is not to get older. Back when I was forty, about twenty years ago, a coworker said you are a ten year old locked in a forty year olds body. I concur with that whole heartily. The first few month’s I keep waiting for the “boredom” to set in, didn’t happen, each day has been an adventure. True I have not taken up coach potato mode. On that note, just like the ten year old I love to watch movies in the afternoon, matinees so to speak. We get our movies in the mail and if you were to ask my wife she would say I specialize in “B” Syfy black and white movies or as I always said, “if it is not on tape and they don’t wear a cape I don’t watch them”. There is nothing like getting the mail and not having a job for that day, head up the stairs to the bed room and slip the DVD in the player, flip on the air and have a coke and chips.

i want to win powerball. is it too much to ask that if you are in the store with five minutes to go, not to have a full load of stuff and not realize your ebt card doesn't have that much on it ? i have to put that stuff away real fast before i can clock out and go home.

ronaldj's picture

This week I felt retired for maybe the first time, everyone has been asking me how retirement has been going? I like to tell them it’s kind of like the fellow who jumped off the thirty story building, as he went by each floor someone ask how’s it going, he would say, “so far so good” anyway this past week my wife and I went to the city about 30 miles away to go to the big box lumber store.

zekeman1's picture

i was eating my pizza when i heard a loud crash. i ran to the door to look out. i saw a truck had run into the fence and broke some wood posts on the farm across the street. there was also a small white car inside the yard near a creek.

school's out...a fun little poem

ronaldj's picture

Schools out.

The school doors are flung open, summertime is here.
This ole’ school house, I won’t be anywhere near.

Heading for the river, fishing pole in hand,
Maybe to the beach, to lie out in the sand.

....LCS.

Yep, just found out by June 30th the LCS I've frequented since I began College three years ago is going kaput. Very very sad to hear and I'm worried about those who work there and if they'll be able to find other jobs after-wards. The store/business has been in existence for 17 years once elsewhere and for the last 8 or 9 years I believe where I was.

Blizzard!

Kevin Street's picture

This morning we got the worst winter storm (so far) this year - and it's the fourth of May! Yesterday there was green grass and bushes tentatively unfurling little green leaves, birds singing and flying around, and today it's a total whiteout. Soggy, heavy snow everywhere and the wind blowing like a hurricane. The power went out for a few minutes this morning. I went outside to help my Dad get on his bus (probably not the best idea, but he got to his destination okay), and I couldn't even breathe. The wind was blowing so hard that it became diffuse and I couldn't get enough air into my lungs, and after five minutes I was just coated in snow.

sport's fans bill of rights

zekeman1's picture

if your team does not get to the playoffs in at least 5 years, the league can take over operations . this is baring a bunch of injuries to the team. the owner shall not interfere with the league making player personnel changes , coaches changes, and office personell. the owner still will retain ownership but if the league deems it, the league shall sell the team to another person/corporation. if the changes do get the team into the playoffs the owner shall be allowed conditional control of the team. if the owner again allows the team to not make the playoffs, the league shall again be allowed to sell the team.

the month of may and retirement

ronaldj's picture

the month of may is coming once again, just two short years ago i was thinking about retirement, my time would be in and i could if i so wanted to. then last may after being laid off all winter things looked bad and it appeared like that would not happen.
